DUI Checkpoint Tonight

The Gila County DUI Task Force is conducting a DUI enforcement checkpoint tonight (Friday) from 8:pm until 2:am on Highway 70 at the High Desert Middle School intersection.

The DUI Task Force is made up of officers from the Department of Public Safety, the Gila County Sheriff’s Office, and the Globe, Miami and San Carlos Police Departments.

The purpose of the checkpoint is to identify and remove intoxicated drivers from the highway.

In addition to the checkpoint, roving patrols are working throughout the county over the holiday weekend.

The Gila County DUI Task Force will be conducting a DUI enforcement checkpoint on Saturday from 8:pm until 2:am. The location will be US 70 at the intersection of  High Desert Middle School.

The Gila County DUI Task Force is made up  of officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the Gila County Sheriff’s Office, and the Globe, Miami and San Carlos Police Departments.

The purpose of the checkpoint is tio identify and remove intoxicated drivers from the highway.

Roving patrols will also be working throughout the county over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

Holiday DUI Arrests Drop 25% in Three Years

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety says drunk driving arrests during holidays have dropped more than 25% in the past three years.

Around 2,300 people were arrested for driving drunk in Arizona between November 24 and this Wednesday. There were more than 3,100 arrests by holiday DUI task force officers during the same period in 2009.

The total number of traffic stops conducted by task force officers dropped by 26%.

Holiday DUI Enforcement

The Goveernor’s Office of Highway Safety has announced the start of the annual Holiday DUI Enforcement and Sober Designated Driver campaigns.

Law enfrcement officers will be out in force looking for impaired drivers. You can expect to see DUI checkpoints and more police presence throughout December and into the New Year.

Last year these types of holiday enforcement campaigns resulted in more than 3,300 arrests.
