What a Flashing Red Traffic Light Means

Some drivers are confused by the new pedestrian signal on US 60 and High Street.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says that the flashing red light means the same thing as a stop sign—drivers must stop and make sure the crosswalk is clear before they proceed.

The flashing red signal is slightly different from a regular pedestrian signal at an intersection. A normal red light means traffic must stay stopped until the green signal appears. A flashing red light means the driver must stop and then proceed when it is safe to do so.
