Memorial Day Ceremony in Miami

A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held on Monday (May 26) at Veterans Memorial Park in Miami. It starts at 9:am.

Two families will be honored at the ceremony. The family of Manuel V. Mendoza, a World War II veteran, and the family of Clarence Eugene Goss, who was killed in Vietnam, will receive  plaques.

Soft drinks and a snack will be offered after the ceremony. 

You will also be able to order bricks for the Miami Veterans Memorial Wall.

Miami Veterans Day Parade, Ceremony and Cookout

The Town of Miami invites you to their Veterans Day Parade, Ceremony and Cookout today (Monday).

The parade starts at 10:20 am at the Bullion Plaza and will make its way along Sullivan Street to Miami Veterans Memorial Park.

The ceremony starts after the parade at around 11:00 and the hot dog cookout will follow the eceremony.

Miami Boomtown Spree Committee Meets Tonight

The Miami Boomtown Spree Committee invites everyone in the community who would like to help organize one of the area’s most prominent events to attend a meeting tonight (Tuesday) at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum. The meeting starts at 6:pm.

The Committee is currently planning to hold the Miami Boomtown Spree during the weekend of April 11, 12 and 13.

Veterans Day Events in Miami

There will be a Veterans Day Parade, Ceremony and Cookout in Miami on Veterans Day, November 11.

The parade starts at 10:20am at the Bullion Plaza Museum and Cultural Center. It will move down Sullivan Street to the Miami Veterans Memorial Park. 

Entry forms may be picked up at Miami Town Hall and must be turned in by 5:pm November 8. Trophies will be awarded for the top three entries.

You may drive in the parade, march  or walk, ride a bike, ride a motorcycle and you may enter your pet. Residents from both Globe and Miami are invited to enter the parade.

The Veterans Day Ceremony begins immediately following the parade at about 11:am.

A hot dog cook out will take place right after the ceremony. Donations will be gladly accepted for the cookout.

Miami Music in the Park

Miami’s Music in the Park event this Saturday (July 20) features the band “Jaded.”

Wear your most patriotic hat and you may win a prize.

It’s on Saturday from 6:30 to 9:30pm at Miami Veterans Park.

Food on sale during the event includes home made burritos, root bear floats and pucker pickles.

Miami Swimming Classes

Miami’s Hostetler Pool is offering swimming lessons during July.

Classes for children 3 to 5 years old are from 5:30 to 6:pm Monday through Thursday, from July 8 to July 18.

Classes for children 6 to 12 are from 6:15 to 6:45pm Monday through Saturday.

The cost is $25. Sign up at the pool or at Miami Town Hall.

Miami Fiesta Sub Committee Meets Today at 6:PM

The Town of Miami Fiesta Sub Committee meets today (Thursday) at 6:00 in the Miami Town Council Chambers.

They will discuss and possibly act to hand over the management of the Miami Fiesta to the Miami Genesis Board, as directed by the Miami Town Council

The Miami Fiesta will be held on September 14.

Memorial Day Ceremony and Veterans Wall Dedication

A Memorial Day Ceremony and Veterans Wall dedication will take place at Miami’s Veterans Memorial Park on Monday (May 27) at 9:am.

Miami Spring Clean Up on Saturday

A Spring Clean Up Day will be held in Miami on Saturday (May 18)  from 9:am until noon.

The goal is to sweep and clean garbage and debris in the area from South Depot to South Latham Blvd.

Safety vests, plastic bags, rubber gloves and shovels will be provided.

Volunteers will meet in front of Bullion Plaza at 8:am on Saturday.

Miami 'Summer Fling' on Saturday

The Friends of Miami  present the “Summer Fling”  all day Saturday at Miami’s Veterans Park.

The day’s events begin with an art show at 10:am. There will be prizes and a 50/50 raffle throughout the day. A barbecue dinner will be served at 6:30pm. Tickets  for the dinner qre $8.

Live music and dancing will continue from 6:30 until 9:30pm.

Bloody Tanks Creek Clean-Up

A clean-up of the Bloody Tanks Creek in Miami will take place on Saturday morning.

Volunteers will meet at Memorial Park on Sullivan Street at 7:30 and clean until 11:00.

Art and Nature Fest May 12

On Saturday, May 12 the Town of Miami is holding an Art and Nature Fest through the Bloody Tanks Wash. The event begins at Miami Memorial Park at 8:am and continues through 4:pm.

The event celebrates a historic landmark that winds through the Town of Miami. The fest is family and pet friendly.

Help Build a Miami Veterans Memorial Wall

Darryl Dalley is raising money to construct a Veterans Memorial Wall for the Town of Miami.

Local artists are making drawings and an archetect will design the wall. The Miami Town Council will approve the final design.

The front of the wall on the ground will be lined with red bricks. Darryl is selling the bricks for $50 each and you can put up to three lines on the brick. You may purchase a brick for a veteran, friend or family member, or in your own name.

Miami Loco Art Walk

The 3rd annual Miami Loco Art Walk begins tomorrow (Friday) night at 7 at Copper Mine Picture Café. There will be a raffle for a work of art and an open mike featuring poets and artists.

The Art Walk around Miami from 10 to 5 on Saturday and Sunday includes more than 20 participating venues and more than 30 artists. New this year is a “crafts walk” with a variety of craft objects and a wine bar Saturday night at Copper Mine Picture Café. All profits go to the Miami Arts Commission.

Other activities include street performers at twilight and a huge lineup of musicians and performers at Veterans Memorial Park from 7 to 10 Saturday night. Also a dance and DJ party at Miami Art Works and a pizza and band party at Old Mine Shaft Pizza.

Keystone Stairs Cleanup Tomorrow

A cleanup of the historic Keystone Stairs in Miami will take place tomorrow (Saturday) from 8:am until Noon.

Please wear sturdy shoes, bring your own gloves, tools to pick up garbage, and water. Garbage bags will be provided.

Home Rule Option Goes to Miami Voters

The Miami Town Council has approved the Home Rule Option after two public hearings, determining that an alternative expenditure limitation is necessary. They are submitting it to Miami voters at the May 15 general election. A copy of the Resolution and the proposal is available at Town Hall upon request.

The Town of Miami is requesting arguments “for” or “against” Home Rule to be included in the ballot measure’s publicity pamphlet.

Christmas Caroling Trolley Night in Miami

The Pride in Miami project will announce the “best dressed” commercial building and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd “best dressed” homes at the Christmas Caroling Trolley Night. The event starts at 8:pm Friday at Miami Memorial Park.

Santa Will Be at Miami's 'Small Town Christmas'

Santa will be at the Small Town Christmas celebration at Miami Memorial Park on Saturday at 9:am. Bring a can of food for the Food Bank and have a picture taken with Santa and his helpers. There will be hot cocoa and free goodies.

Successful Cleanup in Miami

Last Saturday Globe Clean and Beautiful and the Miami Genesis group sponsored a clean up event in Miami. About 90 volunteers met in Miami and hauled away about 85 tons of trash and debris. An additional 20 tons of metal and brush were also removed.

The groups say this is one of the most successful community cleanups to date. They thank Freeport McMoRan for their help in making the event possible by sponsoring the landfill fees. In the past Gila County has sponsored the cleanups and provided equipmnt and waived the landfill fees. But the county was not able to do that this time due to the current state of the economy.

The cleanup was also made possible by local companies who provided the necessary heavy equipment and other local businesses who provided food for the volunteers.

'Around Miami' Author to be at Miami Fiesta

Author Santos Vega will be at the Miami Fiesta from 10:am until 4:pm Saturday for a book signing. Dr. Vega is the author of the new book Around Miami which presents a pictorial history of the Miami area.

Vega is a Miami native and graduate of Miami High School. He is professor emeritus of the Hispanic Research Center at Arizona State University.
