North Pine Street Closed Thursday for Railroad Track Repairs

The City of Globe announces that North Pine Street will be closed tomorrow (Thursday) between Oak Street and Sycamore Street

The street will be closed from 6:am to 4:pm during repairs of the railroad tracks.

Miami Road Closed During Repaving

The City of Globe announces that Sullivan Paving is repaving Miami Road this week. They start today (Tuesday) and plan to finish on Thursday.

Miami Road will be temporarily closed between 7:30 and 3:30 while the work is being done.

257 Fire 40 Percent Contained, Temporary Road Closure

The 257 Fire, 3 miles south of Superior has burned 2,640 acres. It is now 40% contained.

Firefighters continue to strengthen containment lines to protect a power line east of the fire. Resolution Copper’s exploratory drilling has been suspended. High daytime temperatures remain a concern for firefighter safety and a potential for heat related illnesses exists.

Many emergency vehicles and others associated with fire suppression efforts are moving along US Highway 60 between Superior and Top of the World. The public is asked to be alert to this added traffic and use extra caution when driving through that area.

Tonto National Forest officials have announced a temporary road closure due to the 257 fire. The closure area includes the Oak Flat Campground. It begins at the intersection of SR 60/177 junction, northeast along the southern edge of SR 60 to Devil's Canyon, south following Devil's Canyon to the forest boundary, following the forest boundary south and southwest to SR 177, then northerly along the eastern edge of SR 177, north to Highway 60.

ADOT to Reopen Roads to White Mountains Lakes

Next Monday (April 16) the Arizona Department of Transportation will reopen several highways that are closed each winter after the first snowfall.

This includes State Route 261 between Eager and Big Lake; State Route 273 between Sunrise Park and Big Lake; and State Route 473 between State Route 260 and Hawley Lake.

SR 77 Closed Between Globe and Winkelman

The Arizona Department of Transportation says State Route 77 is closed between State Route 177 in Winkelman and US 70 in Globe. Crews are dealing with a hazardous materials incident caused by a leak of sulfuric acid from a tanker truck along a 27-mile stretch of the highway. The highway is expected to remain closed until mid-day.

Drivers can use State Route 177 and US 60 to go between Winkelman and Globe, which will add approximately 30 minutes to the trip.

Lane Closures on South Broad Street

The City of Globe announces lane and road closures on South Broad Street due to the repairs of a damaged transformer pole.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane today (Tuesday) until 4:pm.

On Wednesday traffic will possibly be restricted to one lane periodically throughout the day.

Both lanes on South Braod Street will be closed beginning Thursday night at 8:pm, continuing until 5:am.

There will be police officers and barricades set up to help direct traffic.

Tortilla Fire Road Closure Lifted

Fire specialists have lifted the road closure of Forest Road 213. The road was temporarily closed for public and firefighter safety while managing the 1,700 acre Tortilla Fire on the south side of Highway 88 near Fish Creek.

The fire is 50% contained and is still being managed. Due to current monsoon humidity, lightning-caused fires can be allowed to play their natural role in the forest ecosystem.

ADOT: Several Highway Closures Still Exist Due to Wallow Fire

The Arizona Department of Transportation wants to remind travelers that several highways remain closed due to the Wallow Fire in eastern Arizona and travel in the area should be avoided.

While fire conditions have improved in the region, the following closures on state highways remain in effect:

State Route 260 is closed from the Hawley Lake turnoff to the South Fork junction (mileposts 369-390).

US 191 is closed between Alpine and north of Clifton (milepost 176-253).

State Routes 261 (mileposts 395-413) and 273 (mileposts 378-394), the main access roads to Big Lake and Crescent Lake in the White Mountains, are closed.

SR 373 that connects the town of Greer with SR 260 west of Eagar is closed (mileposts 386-391).

US 180 is closed between the SR 260 junction near Eagar and the New Mexico state line (mileposts 403-433).

In southern Arizona, SR 366 is closed at milepost 118 leading up to Mount Graham (milepost 143) near Safford after the U.S. Forest Service determined the risk of wildfire is too extreme to allow access.

State Route 289 near Rio Rico in southern Arizona has reopened. It was closed on June 4 due to the Murphy Fire.

Drivers in these areas are advised to watch for fire crews and to be alert for reduced visibility as a result of smoke.

ADOT estimates nearly 200 miles of state highways remain closed due to wildfires burning across Arizona or due to the threat of wildfires.

U.S. 60 Closed Near Springerville Due to the Wallow Fire

Nearly 20 miles of U.S. 60 has been closed from Springerville to the New Mexico state line due to the Wallow Fire in eastern Arizona. This closure stretches from milepost 384 to 401.

In all, more than 200 miles of state highways are closed due several major wildfires burning in Arizona.

The Arizona Department of Transportation reminds motorists traveling that the following closures on state highways remain in effect:

-- State Route 260 is closed in both directions east of the Hawley Lake turnoff (State Route 473 junction) and Eagar. SR 260 is closed between mileposts 372-398 near Eagar.

-- State Route 373, a 4.5 mile-long highway that connects the town of Greer in eastern Arizona with SR 260 west of Eagar, is closed.

-- U.S. 191 is closed between Alpine and north of Clifton (mileposts 176-253).

-- State Routes 261 and 273, the main access roads to Big Lake and Crescent Lake in the White Mountains, are closed. SR 261 is closed starting approximately seven miles south of SR 260 to Crescent Lake (mileposts 395-413) and SR 273 is closed between the SR 260 junction and to the SR 261 junction (mileposts 378-394).

-- U.S. 180 is closed between the SR 260 junction near Eagar and the New Mexico state line (mileposts 403-433).

-- In southern Arizona, SR 289 is closed along mileposts 2-10, approximately two miles north of the Interstate 19 junction.

-- SR 366 is closed at milepost 118 leading up to Mount Graham (milepost 336) near Safford after the U.S. Forest Service determined the risk of wildfire is too extreme to allow access.

Portion of Icehouse Canyon Road Closed Tuesday

Icehouse Canyon Road will be closed Tuesday from 6:am until 4:pm between South Six Shooter Canyon Road and El Paso Road. Globe Water Department is installing a new 6 inch water line.

Residents needing access to Icehouse Canyon Road will be diverted along South Hagen Road and past the Globe baseball fields and Public Works Maintenance Yard. Traffic will be diverted along Liberty High School.

Portion of SR 88 Will Close for Repairs

The Arizona Department of Transportation will close a four-mile segment of State Route 88—the Apache Trail—for two months beginning Monday (November 15). The closure is near Fish Creek Hill. It will provide a safe work zone for repairs to retaining walls and sections of the roadway.

Roosevelt Lake and Apache Lake are accessible by State Route 188. Canyon Lake and recreation facilities are still accessible by State Route 88 and so is Lost Dutchman State Park.
