Arizona 100th Birthday in Globe

A special birthday tribute to the State of Arizona starts at 5:pm tomorrow (Tuesday) on the bandstand in front of the Center for the Arts.

Everyone is invited to bring a dinner bell, cowbell or whatever you have handy to ring in the next 100 years at 5:30pm. Area churches have been invited to ring their church bells.

Southwest Gas will have bell bracelets for the first 200 children 12 and under, accompanied by their parents.

City of Globe Presents 'Old West Days' in May

The City of Globe will present a multi-entertainment event in May called “Old West Days.”

On Saturday, May 7, the Kick Off Dance will be held from 6 to 10:pm at the Drift Inn Saloon. There’ll be music and an old west reenactment group. Admission is $5.

Then on Saturday, May 14, the “Old West Days’ Grand Parade begins at 9:am. This will be followed by a Street Fair on Broad Street at the Old Court House and Historic Railroad Depot. In addition to food, music and other entertainmemt, there will be guided tours of the old jail, courthouse and cemetery.

The Historic “Copper Dust Stampede” Rodeo will take place on Saturday, May 14 at 5:pm and on Sunday at 1:pm.

Second Saturday Downtown Tours

On Saturday you’ll be able to see behind the scenes at the Globe Post Office during the downtown Globe Second Saturday event. You can also take a tour of the old courthouse, the federal courtroom, the secret passageway and old fallout shelter.

You’ll also be able to see Globe’s first Social Security Office, IRS, Immigration Office and Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The tours are free and will be from 9:am to 4:pm.

Home Tour and Other Events This Weekend

Several fun events are taking place this weekend along with the Globe Historic Home and Building tour.

The tour itself features stops at several territorial-day homes and historic buildings, along with visits to the antique show and to the Smithsonian exhibit at the Historical Museum. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.

A full size replica of Thomas the Tank Engine will be at the Copper Spike Railroad station on Saturday and Sunday, and then again next weekend (March 12 and 13). There’ll be train rides, live music, along with storytelling and other activities for the kids.

Then on Saturday evening, the “Bawdy Broad Street Tour” revisits the history of Globe’s bars and bordellos. Walking tours start at 6:30pm from inside the Old Jail and include a theatrical history talk inside the Old Courthouse. Tickets are $5, or $3 with a Home Tour ticket. Proceeds go to the Historic Main Street Program.
