Free Community Breakfast

The First Christian Church Men’s group is having a free breakfast on Saturday that is open to the community. It’s from 8:am until Noon.

ADOT Accepting Grant Applications

The Arizona Department of Transportaion is accepting applications for the latest cycle of federal grants for Safe Routes to School programs in schools and communities around Arizona.

Safe Routes to School is a federally funded program that encourages elementary and middle school students to walk or bike to school, to encourage healthy habits and lower the risk of childhood obesity and diabetes.

Grants up to $400,000 are available for improvements such as sidewalks, crosswalks, bike lanes, signage and striping. Grants up to $45,000 can go to programs and activities like providing bike helmets and safety education.

Grant applications are available at azdot.gov/srts. They must be submitted by December 30. Schools, school districts, tribal communities, cities, counties and non-profit organizartions are eligible.

Baked Potato Dinner

First Christian Church invites the community to a Baked Potato Dinner on Friday (September 16) from 5 to 7:pm.

The meal includes a baked potato, salad bar and dessert bar. The cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children. Entertainment will be provided by Velvet Hammer Gospel Sound.

First Christian church is at 401 South Broad Street.

Community Centennial Band Forming

The Community Centennial Band is being formed to play some concerts during the Arizona Centennial year. The first practice session will be Thursday, September 29 from 7 to 9:pm in the Globe High School Band Room.

This is a volunteer band led by co-directors from Globe and Miami High Schools. Practice sessions will alternate between the Globe and Miami Band Rooms.

The Community Centennial Band is open to players of any age from all over the Globe-Miami area. It is sponsored by the City of Globe and the Miami Genesis Group. Concerts will be presented in both communities.

Copper Basin Coalition Meeting

The monthly Copper Basin Coalition meeting is tomorrow (Thursday) from 12 to 1:pm at Calvary Shadows Assembly of God church. Everyone who is concerned about drug use in our community, underage drinking, teen pregnancy and domestic violence due to substance abuse is invited to attend.

Heritage Hosts Community Barbecue on Friday

Heritage Health Care is kicking off the Fourth of July weekend on Friday with a community barbecue.

They will have hamburgers, chips and snacks for everyone who attends. Activities include a watermelon eating contest, face painting, a cake walk, music and carnival games.

The community event is Friday from 10:30am until 1:30pm.

Heritage Health Care is hosting a community barbecue on Friday, July 1 from 10:30 am until 1:30pm. They invite everyone to dress in their favorite red, white and blue and help the residents of Heritage Health Care kick off the holiday weekend. They’ll provide hamburgers, chips and snacks for everyone who attends. The activities include a watermelon eating contest, face painting, a cake walk, music and carnival games.

Cenpatico Seeking Grant Applications

Cenpatico of Arizona announces that it is seeking grant applications for Community Reinvestment Funds. Local leaders and community organizations are encouraged to apply.

Cenpatico is the Regional Behavioral Health Authority for Gila and seven other Arizona counties. Under its new contracts with the Arizona Department of Health Services, Cenpatico has committed to giving back a percentage of its after tax profits for community reinvestment. The program will make awards for each of its three Geographical Service Areas.

Previous grants have been awarded for projects like a new family shelter and a water splash park for children.

The deadline to submit a proposal is June 20. A final decision on the grants will be made by July 15.

SRP Donates $24,000 to Local and Regional Non-Profits

Salt River Project has donated $24,000 to 12 local and regional community organizations to share in the centennial celebration of Theodore Roosevelt Dam. SRP says the money will support programs that serve communities who have ties with the dam. In many cases, the local residents had family members who were involved in the dam’s construction.

Some of the local organizations that will each receive $2,000 are: Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum, Cobre Valley Center for the Arts, Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center, Friends of the Globe Library, Gila County Historical Museum, Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce, Miami Sports Hall of Fame and Pinal Mountain Little League.
