AARP Driver Safety Class in Globe on Thursday

An AARP Driver Safety Class is being held in Globe  on Thursday.

This is a classroom driver refresher course for drivers 50 years of age and older. It’s at the United Methodist Church  from 9:am until 1:pm.

The cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for nonmembers.

AARP Expanding Its Fraud Awareness Program

AARP Arizona is planning to expand its fraud education program beyond Maricopa and Pima counties. 

Their Community Educators Program uses trained volunteers to give presentations to communities and organizations.

Public News Service reports that the AARP Fraud Watch Network features a website, FraudWatchNetwork.org. Those who sign up receive regular fraud alerts, along with tips about how to avoid being victimized and other resources.

AARP Arizona is looking for volunteers to expand its presentations throughout the state. If you would like to volunteer to be a presenter or to request a community presentation, call the AARP state office at 1-866-389-5649.

AARP Driver Safety Class to be Held in Globe

An AARP Driver Safety Class will be held in Globe on Thursday, April 10. 

The course is a classroom driver refresher course for drivers 50 years of age and older. It will be from 9:am to 1:pm at the United Methodist Church.

Class topics include the effects that aging has on driving and what can be done to adapt to those changes.

The cost of the class for AARP members is $15 and is $20 for non-members.

AARP Offers Help with Tax Return Preparation

The AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide service is available for people who can’t afford professionally prepared tax returns.

AARP’s  service has become the largest free tax assistance and preparation program in the nation. It gives special assistance to seniors but helps people at low to moderate income levels.

AARP Launches Fraud Watch Network

AARP has launched a campaign to fight identity theft and fraud.

The AARP Fraud Watch Network is free and open to everyone. You don’t have to be an AARP member. When you sign up you get access to alerts about scams in your area and resources to help you spot and avoid con artists.

AARP Driver Safety Class at GAAC November 1.

The AARP Driver Safety Course will be given at the Globe Active Adult Center on Thursday, November 1 from 12:30 to 4:30. The course will be free to active military personnel, veterans and dependents.

The class is $14 for non-veterans, $12 if you are an AARP member.

AARP Members Send Millions of Petitions to Congress

AARP has announced that it has collected more than 6.5 million petitions urging Congress not to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits. Members and volunteers are delivering the petitions directly to members of Congress. Nearly 25,000 petitions will be delivered to the offices of Senators Jon Kyl and John McCain. Petions will also be delivered to Arizona’s Congressional Representatives including 3,600 petitions to 1st District Representative Paul Gosar.

Arizona’s half-million-plus veterans are being offered a chance to take free driver safety classes during November. AARP is waiving the entrance fees for all military personnel of all ages. You may also qualify for car insurance discounts once you complete the course.

The AARP Driver Safety Program is waiving entrance fees to its classroom courses in November in honor of Veteran’s Day. All military personnel, active duty or retired, spouses and dependent children are eligible.

More Than Eight Percent of Older Arizonans Face Hunger

A new report from the AARP Foundation says that nearly 9 million Americans 50 and older face the risk of hunger. This includes more than 8.6% of older Arizonans.

The Foundation announced the new research at the Meals on Wheels Association of America conference in Chicago. It is working with hunger relief organizations to combat the growing problem of hunger among older Americans.
