Kiehne Apologizes for Shooting Remarks

District 1 Congressional candidate Gary Kiehne has aplogized for saying that most mass shootings are by Democrats.

Kiehne made the remarks at a Republican primary debate Saturday in Florence.

Kiehne says his comments were inaccurate and that he shouldn’t have made the remarks without any reservations.

Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin is also running for the First District Congressional seat. He says Kiehne should withdraw from the race because of a pattern of “bizarre and deeply offensive” remarks.

Kwasman Announces Candidacy in CD1

State Representative Adam Kwasman has announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the 1^st Congressional seat now held by Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick.

Kwasman is a first-term legislator from Oro Valley.

CD1 Candidate to Speak at Republican Club Meeting

The Cobre Valley Republican Club meets tomorrow (Saturday) at 9:30am at Joe’s Broad Street Grill.

The guest speaker will be Doug Wade, who is running for Congress in District 1.

Tucson Republican to Run for CD1 Seat

The Tucson Sentinel reports that Tucson Republican Jonathon Paton has announced that he is running for Congress in the re-designed First Congressional District. The district now stretches from Oro Valley—just north of Tucson—to the Utah Border.

Paton is a former state legislator who will possibly face former state Rep. Bill Konopnicki and former Corporation Commissioner Gary Price in the Republican primary.

Payton served in the Arizona Legislature from 2004 to 2010. He ran for Congress in District 8 in 2010, but lost the GOP primary to Jesse Kelly, who lost to Gabrielle Giffords in the general election.

After Paton left the Legislature to run for Congress, he lobbyed for the payday loan industry.

Former Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick and Wenona Benally Baldenegro will run in the Democratic primary for Congressional District 1.

Current District 1 Congressman Paul Gosar has announced that he is moving from Flagstaff to Prescott to run in the newly aligned Congressional District 4.

Rep. Gosar in Globe-Miami Thursday

First District Representative Paul Gosar will be at the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce tomorrow (Thursday) from 3 until 4:30pm. The Congressman will have a few remarks and then will take questions.

This is an opportunity to visit with Rep. Gosar and discuss issues and concerns within the district and nationally. The event is open to the public.

Kirkpatrick to Run for Congress Again

Former Arizona District 1 Representative Ann Kirkpatrick says she plans to run for Congress again in 2012. Kirkpatrick lost to Republican Paul Gosar last year.

She told the Arizona Republic that she hopes the 2012 political climate will be more hospitable to her candidacy because it is a presidential year and will probably have a bigger voter turnout.

Arizona’s congressional districts will be redrawn this year to accommodate an additional House seat that the state is getting because of its population growth. This could significantly change the 1st Congressional district. But since Kirkpatrick and Gosar are both from Flagstaff, they’ll most likely be in the same district.
