MHS 1972 Football Championship Reunion


The 1972 Miami High School Football Championship Reunion will be held on Friday, November 23 at the Apache Gold Casino.

The event includes a meet and tour of the Miami Vandal Hall of Fame at 1:pm. Then a social hour at 7:pm at the Apache Gold Casino. This will be followed at 9:pm by a viewing of the Championship Game film with comments from coaches and players.

Soil Improvement and Garden Workshop


A Soil Improvement and Garden Workshop will be held at Gila Community College on Saturday, November 17 from 9:am until Noon.

The workshop will feature a hands-on computer exercise with USDA’s Web Soil Survey of Southern Gila County. There will also be a series of guest speakers talking about desert soils, composting, irrigation, and building soil nutrients for gardening and plants.

The event is free and open to the public.

Police Log


Globe Police arrested two people early this morning in connection with an assault report. 37 year old Crystal Kelley was charged with assault/domestic violence. 40 year old Michael James was arrested for violation of a court order and domestic violence.

Officers are investigating an assault report taken at a residence on North Main Street; a burglary at a business on North Broad Street; and a burglary at a residence on West Gillete Street.


The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating illegal dumping of trash into Pinal Creek.



Obituary


Former Globe resident Bessie V. Ashcroft passed away on October 25 at her home in Ahwatukee. She was 87. She is survived by her husband Ken; her sons John and Frank Dzera; 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass for Bessie Ashcroft will be held Monday (November 12) at 11:am at Holy Angels Catholic Church.

Police Log


There was a two vehicle injury accident yesterday morning at East Ash Street and Skyview. One driver was cited for failure to yield.

Nobody was hurt in an accident yesterday afternoon at US 60 and Radanovich Drive. Two citations were issued.

Two people were arrested late last night after a domestic disturbance on South East Street. 19 year old Bryan Leonard and 22 year old Matthew Leonard were charged with domestic violence disorderly conduct.

Two more people were arrested after a domestic disturbance on East Yucca Drive. 41 year old Sam Stauffer and 38 year old Charlene Tapia  were charged with domestic violence assault.

Officers are investigating a domestic incident on East Yucca Drive.


Obituaries


Forrest Elbert Smith of Kearny passed away Monday at Hospice of the Valley in Mesa. He was 84. He is survived by 4 children; his sisters Mary Huggins and Geraldine Sater of Miami; 14 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Forrest Smith is tomorrow (Thursday) from 5 to 7:pm and Friday from 10 to 11:am at Lamont Mortuary. The funeral is Friday at 11:00.

Francis Hinton of San Carlos passed away October 24 at Copper Mountain Inn. He was 68. He is survived by Francine Allen who was like a daughter to him, and by 3 grandchildren.
The wake for Francis Hinton is Friday at 4:pm at the Patten residence in San Carlos. The funeral is Saturday at 1:pm at San Carlos Miracle Church.

'First Friday' Program Discusses Bullion Plaza Cannon


The First Friday program on November 2 will feature a history lesson about the World War I cannon at Bullion Plaza.

Bullion Plaza Museum Director Tom Foster will give the free presentation starting at 6:30pm.

Police Log


Three people were injured and treated at the scene of a two vehicle collision yesterday at Highway 60 and Forest Avenue in Miami. A car ran into the back of another vehicle while crossing the intersection. One driver was cited for failure to control his vehicle and for no proof of financial responsibility.

Miami Police arrested 24 year old Daniel Reyes on a warrant for disorderly conduct and criminal damage.

Globe Police arrested 38 year old Jeremy Smith for assault last night at a residence on East Ash Street.

Glenn Edwards was arrested for shoplifting at the Claypool Safeway.

The Gila County Task Force arrested 19 year old Darie Roehm for possession of dangerous drugs.

A Gila County Sheriff’s Deputy served inmate Edward Avalos with a failure to pay warrant for DUI.

Deputies are investigating criminal damage at a residence on Cobb Avenue.

Mesa Police arrested 32 year old Albert Reyes of Globe on a child support warrant.

Obituary


Former Miami resisdent Gilbert R. Gonzales passed away October 27 at his home in Surprise. He was 85. He is survived by 2 children; 3 brothers; 2 sisters; 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Gilbert Gonzales is tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10:am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church. Rosary is at 10:30 and Mass is at 11:00.

Miami Fall Cleanup on November 10


The Town of Miami is having a community cleanup day on Saturday, November 10. Volunteers will sweep and clean garbage and debris along Forest Avenue, Adonis Avenue and S. Glass Canyon.

You can help beautify the Town of Miami by offering a few hours of your time.

On-site project leaders will provide direction and supplies such as safety vests, plastic bags, rubber gloves and shovels.

Volunteers will meet in front of the Bullion Plaza at 8:am on November 10. The Cleanup is from 9:am until Noon.

The Globe City Council is having a Special meeting today (Monday) at 4:pm.

It will be an Executive Session to discuss City Manager interviews.

Police Log


A brush fire near a residential area on Merritt Street yesterday in Miami was quickly controlled by the Globe Fire Department. No structures were damaged.

Nobody was hurt in an accident Saturday morning on Springfield Road.

There were no injuries in a hit and run accident Saturday night on Copper Street.

No injuries were reported in a hit and run accident Friday night on East Maple Street.

Miami Police arrested 22 year old Nathan Harper for aggravated assault after a fight between two brothers.

25 year old Korwin Smith was arrested on a failure to pay warrant for theft.

42 year old Derrick Cons was arrested on a failure to pay warrant for threats and intimidation.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old John Shriner for DUI.

47 year old Norman Bray was cited and released for DUI.

Deputies are investigating a theft on Walliman Road; a theft on Colt Drive; and a report of harassing phone calls taken at a residence on Glendale Avenue.

Saturday morning a Globe Police officer responded to a stolen vehicle report at a residence in Globe Mobile Home Park. The officer arrested 20 year old Kyle Lyngar after he discovered that Lyngar was making a false report.

41 year old Jeanie Cleveland of Phoenix was arrested for assault at Horizon Human Services.

An officer took a report of threats, and the case is under investigation. But 22 year old Joshua Mariscal—who was making the report—was found to be wanted in another case of fraudulent use of a credit card.

Two people were arrested Saturday night for shoplifting at Walmart. 40 year old Arthur Dunbar and 31 year old Adrianne McCaslin were booked and later released.

46 year old Douglas Bernardin was arrested for harassment after a disturbance Friday night on Souuth Hill Street.

Officers are investigating a domestic dispute at Copper Country Mobile Home Park;  a shoplifting report taken at a business on Highway 60; and a burglary at a residence on Sunset.

Obituary


Floyd Perry Bendle of San Carlos passed away October 24 at Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa. He was 59. He is survived by his brothers Edwin and Evans; and his sister Jennie Clark.
Visitation for Floyd Bendle will be Wednesday from 10:am to 1:pm at Lamont Mortuary. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 10:am at San Carlos Cemetery.
