Last week a Gila County jury found Ramon Delgado Sagaste of Sonora, Mexico guilty of possession of a dangerous drug for sale, possesion of drug paraphernalia, and driving under the influence of drugs.
Sagaste was pulled over for speeding on September 15. More than $76,000 in cash and nearly a pound of meth was found in the vehicle.
Sagaste faces five to ten years in jail. He will be sentenced on April 18.

Miami Native Appointed Pima County Presiding Judge
A judge who grew up in Miami has been named presiding judge for Pima County.
The Arizona Supreme Court has appointed Sarah Simmons to replace Jan Kearny when she steps down as presiding judge on May 13.
Simmons graduated from the University of Denver law school in 1973. She worked for several law firms before being appointed a judge in 2006. She is also a former president of the State Bar of Arizona.

Quick Found Guilty of Aggravated DUI
Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores announces that last week a Gila County jury found 25 year old Andrew Quick guilty of two counts of aggravated DUI. Both counts are class four felonies.
Quick is scheduled to be sentenced in Payson on January 24. The presumptive term for a class four felony in Arizona is 2.5 years. If Quick is granted probation, he still must serve at least four months. Fines and fees for aggravated DUI are no less than $4,000 as well as possible seizure of the vehicle involved.

Case Management Conference Set for Johns
A Case Management Conference has been set for Monday in Gila County Superior Court for 69 year old Ronald Hughes Johns. Johns is charged with the attempted murder of his neighbor Loren Eaton in Tonto Basin. The two men have been feuding for years about disputed property lines.
Police say that on May 5, Johns fired two shots at Eaton, hitting Eaton once in the back of the head. The other bullet struck one of Eaton’s horses. The horse was put down and Eaton was taken to a Valley hospital with serious injuries to his face and jaw.
Johns was charged with attempted murder, aggratvated assault, recklessly killing a horse and several counts of misconduct involving weapons. Johns says he fired in self defense. A trial date has not yet been set.
