Police Log


Miami Police arrested 24 year old Joseph Dorame for aggravated assault/ domestic violence and kidnapping.

The US Forest Service arrested 29 year old Terry Vinsant on contempt of court warrants for assault and shoplifting.

The Gila County Task Force arrested 40 year old Angel Rosales on a child support warrant.

Gila County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a harassment report taken in Four Star Mobile Home Park and a criminal damage report taken at a residence on Pineway.

Obituary


Lifetime local resident Betty Moreno Castaneda passed away February 6. She was 80. She is survived by her husband  Robert; her sister; 7 children; 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
The funeral for Betty Castaneda is tomorrow (Saturday) at 10:am at St. Paul’s Methodist Church. A reception will follow at the Globe Elks Lodge.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Blood Pressure Checks at GAAC


Arizona Senior Home Care will give blood pressure checks at 11:am Friday at the Globe Active Adult Center.

Republican Club Meets Saturday


The Cobre Valley Republican Club  meets Saturday morning.. The meeting starts at 9:30am at the Club Headquarters on North Broad Street.

Coffee and donuts will be provided.

Police Log


One person was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center after a single vehicle accident on Highway 77.

There was a two vehicle collision yesterday afternoon at the Highway 60/70 junction.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident in the area of east Maple Street.

Globe Police arrested 43 year old Martin Cassadore for disorderly conduct after a disturbance at a business on East Cedar Street.

21 year old Mark Steinke  was arrested for theft at Pinal Lumber.

Officers are investigating a stolen vehicle report taken at a residence on Blake Street; criminal damage at the Globe Skate Park; and a harassment report taken at Walmart.

Miami Police arrested 56 year old Gerald Lopez for false reporting to law enforcement.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office cited and released 56 year old James Williams for animal cruelty.

Deputies are investigating a report of domestic violence assault that occurred at Charles Bejarano School on February 11; a report of illegal dumping taken at a residence on Mayss Street; the theft of a 4-wheeler on Beer Tree; and a runaway juvenile report taken at a residence in Mackey’s Camp.

Potato Bake at St. Paul's Lutheran Church


St. Paul’s Lutheran Church is having a Potato Bake on Friday, March 1 from 5 to 8:pm.

The cost is $2.50. There will also be a Potato Head Contest and a Singing Contest.

All proceeds will go to St. Paul’s food baskets for the community.

Valentine's Day Music at Miami Senior Center


Joe Sanchez and the Blue Diamonds Band will perform Thursday at 10:30am at the Miami Senior Center.

Police Log


The US Marshall’s Office arrested 36 year old Jason Cook of Globe on probation violation warrants for aggravated assault and child support.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 18 year old  Candice Barnett—also known as Candice Haines—on a warrant for involving a minor in a drug offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, use of a narcotic drug and use of marijuana.

25 year old inmate Jerry Hinton was arrested on a warrant for false reporting to law enforcement.

Deputies are investigating a theft at a residence on Vista Circle; a theft at a residence on Albany Drive; and a report of telephone harassment taken at a residence  on Inspiration.

Globe Police took a report of aggravated assault, burglary and robbery. 33 year old Lorenza Cruz was contacted at the Gila County Jail and received these additional charges.

Officers are investigating a criminal damage report taken at a business on Blake Street.

Air Attack Simulation Drill in the Pinals


The US Forest Service is conducting an Air Attack Simulation Drill in the Pinal Mountains. There will be low flying aircraft.

The drill continues through Saturday.

Obituaries


Jane Aloha Mau Reede of Phoenix passed away February 9 at Scottsdale Healthcare-Osborne. She was 21. She is survived by her parents Gregorio Gonzales, Jr. and Newanna Reede; her sister Mia Victoria Reede; and her brother Noah Gonzales.
The wake for Jane Reede is Friday at 4:pm at the Victoria Reede residence.The funeral is Saturday at 1:pm at the LDS Church in San Carlos.

Vernon Hooke, Jr. has passed away at the age of 34. He is survived by his wife Crystal; 5 daughters and 2 sons.
The wake for Vernon Hooke, Jr. is tomorrow (Thursday) at 4:pm at the Hooke residence. The funeral is Friday at 1:pm.

Alzheimer's Support Group Meets Wednesday


The Alzheimer’s Education and Support  group meets Wednesday at 1:pm at the Globe Active Adult Center.

The group is facilitated by Carol Wilson from Pinal-Gila Council for Seniors.

Globe Clean and Beautiful Meeting


The Globe Clean and Beautiful Committee meets Wednesday at 3:pm in the Globe City Hall conference room.

They will make plans to get Globe looking its best before the Home and Building Tour.

Gila Monster Go-Karts Meeting on Wednesday


A meeting of the Gila Monster Go-Karts begins Wednesday at 6:pm at the American Legion post in Globe.

They’ll talk about the new rules and regulations for the racing season.

Miami Hardscrabble Presentation About Cotton


This Wednesday's  program in the Miami Hardscrabble series is about cotton. The speaker is Gary Vessels.

The presentation begins at 6:30pm at the Bullion Plaza Museum and Cultural Center.

It’s free and light refreshments will be served after the presentation.

Globe High School Reunion Picnic


The Globe High School Reunion Picnic will be held on Saturday, March 23 in Scottsdale.

It’s from 11:am until 3:pm at Indian School Park on the northeast corner of Hayden and Indian School Road.

The cost is $10 a person, including lunch.

Globe Historic Home and Building Tour March 9 and 10


The 29th Annual Globe Historic Home and Building Tour will take place on Saturday and Sunday, March 9 and 10. This also includes the annual Antique Show and Quilt Show.

Tours leave the historic train depot between 9:am and 3:pm.

Tour tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for  12 and under.

Public Meetings to Discuss Building Code Changes


Two public meetings have been scheduled  to present a proposal that would update Gila County building codes.

The first meeting is  on Wednesday, February 27 from 2 to 4:pm. It will be in the Gila County Administration Building conference room on Rose Mofford Way in Globe.

The second meeting will be in Payson on February 28.

'Swing Fever' Performs on February 19


The Globe-Miami Community Concert Association  will present “Swing Fever”   on Tuesday, February 19  in the Miami High School auditorium.

The performance by the “small swing band with a big band sound” begins at 7:pm.

Fair Committee Meets Tonight


The Gila County Fair Committee  meets tonight (Tuesday) at the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce.

The open meeting begins at 7:pm, following an executive session at 6.

The Committee will discuss fair entertainment, special events and facilities improvements.

Highway 60 Cleanup


The Globe Clean and Beautiful  Highway 60 Cleanup will take place on Saturday, March 2. Everybody is invited to participate.

They will meet at the Claypool ball field at 7:30am. The cleanup will continue until noon when lunch will be served.

You will need to wear gloves, long pants and old shoes.

Police Log


The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a theft at Little Acres Mobile Home Park and illegal dumping at Charles Bejarano School.

Four Arrests During Traffic Stop


Four people were arrested on numerous charges after a traffic stop yesterday morning near Blake Street.

33 year old Lorenza Cruz was arrested as a suspect in a residential burglary case. She was later found to possess drug paraphernalia and a firearm and was booked for these offenses.

21 year old Brittany Velasquez was the driver of the car. She was arrested as a suspect in a felony shoplifting case. Valesquez was later found to possess drug paraphernalia.

26 year old Robert Stroud was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and a concealed weapon.

20 year old Brian Coppin was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

After they were in custody at the Gila County Jail,  Cruz and Velasquez were found to have concealed dangerous drugs on their person. They will face additional charges of introducing prison contraband and possession of dangerous drugs.

Globe Council Meets Tonight


Globe City Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:00.

The agenda includes an update on the 3rd Annual Holiday Meal Campaign at the Globe Active Adult Center

There will also be a presentation about the Wounded Warrior Project and a presentation about the Rural Transportation Advocacy Council.

The Council will discuss the ADOT Highway 60 Corridor Study; a Courier Agreement with the Town of Miami; and the Cobre Valley Comprehensive Transportation Plan.

The Council will also consider the placement of playground equipment at the Globe Boys and Girls Club.

Miami Council Meets Tonight


Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30.

The agenda includes the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum Quarterly Report.

The Council will consider changes to the Miami Town Code concerning elections.

They will also discuss and possibly approve the employment contract for Town Clerk Karen Norris.

Miami School Board Meets Tonight


The Miami School Board meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30 in the Miami High School Library.

Miami Police arrested 62 year old Steve Leatherman for disorderly conduct/ domestic violence, criminal damage, resisting arrest and endangerment.

64 year old Domingo Gonzales was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for reckless burning and criminal damage.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old Esequiel Flores for domestic violence/disorderly conduct.

Deputies are investigating a delayed burglary report taken at a residence at Apache Hills Mobile Home Park and a burglary at a residence on Russell Road.

On Saturday Globe Police arrested  two people after a disturbance at Globe Mobile Home Park. 36 year old John Simmons and 41 year old Trisha Simmons were both arrested for domestic violence/disorderly conduct.

53 year old Barney Absher was arrested for shoplifting.

53 year old Don Heinbokel was arrested Saturday night for shoplifting at a business on Ash Street.

25 year old Frank Dillon was arrested on a warrant for selling liquor to a minor.

On Friday 19 year old Nathaniel Burns was arrested for underage consumption.

Officers are investigating criminal damage at a residence on Holly Road; trespassing at a business on Broad Street; and thefts at  residences on Sixth Street,  Vista Circle and Kotor Drive.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office arrested 41 year old Michael Standlee of Globe on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct/fighting.
