Donors Respond to PMLL Equipment Loss


Globe Miami Community News on Facebook reports that Freeport McMoRan has donated $5,000 to Pinal Mountain Little League to replace equipment burned in a recent fire.

Donations have come in from around the state after a Valley TV station reported the loss.

Police Log


Canyon Fire Department put out a brush fire last night on Pipeline.

There was a two vehicle collision just before 6:pm yesterday  at Hill and Maple Street. A report was taken by Globe PD and is pending further investigation.

Last night 22 year old inmate Christopher Reynolds received an additional charge of shoplifting.

A fraud report was taken yesterday morning at a business on Highway 60.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office cited and released 49 year old Darrell White for driving with no valid license, no registration and no insurance.


Obituary


Benjamin Allen Stevens passed away February 23 at his home in Globe. He was 54. He is survived by his wife Catherine; his son Jeff; his daughter Julie; his mother Sara Stevens; and 7 brothers and sisters.
A Memorial Service for Benjamin Stevens will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 2:pm at Lamont Mortuary.

Elks and Rotary Yard Sale


The Pinal Mountain Elks Lodge and the Globe Rotary Club will hold a yard sale this Saturday  from 8:am to 4:pm at the Elks Lodge.

A variety of household items will be for sale, except for clothes.

Free Books to be Given Out Saturday to Young Children


The Gila County Reading Council will host a “Read Across America” book giveaway this Saturday  from 10 to 2 at the Claypool Safeway.

More than 300 free books will be given to children 6th grade and younger



Dr. Seuss Birthday Party


The Globe Public Library is having a Dr. Seuss Birthday Party on Saturday from 11:am until 1:30pm.

They’ll have cake, crafts and more.

It’s free for all ages.

Community Clean-Up This Saturday


Globe Clean and Beautiful will have a Community Clean-up Day this Saturday. The purpose is to make the area look even better for the Historic Home and Building Tour on March 9 and 10.

The Cleanup starts at 7:30am at the Claypool Little League fields (correct). A lunch for volunteers will follow at noon.

The City of Globe will place roll out dumpsters at Devereaux and Bailey Street, Euclid and Hackney, and Maple and 9th Street. They will be available for the community to use from February 22 through March 4.

More Chances to See 'Is He Dead?'


The Copper Cities Community Players will present encore performances of the Mark Twain comedy “Is He Dead?”this Friday and Saturday.. The shows will be at 7:pm at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts.

The Players performed five sold-out shows of the comedy in September. Thanks to rave reviews and strong ticket sales, there will be three more performances in March.

St. Paul's Potato Bake


St. Paul’s Lutheran Church is having a Potato Bake on Friday from 5 until 8:pm. The cost is $2.50.

There will also be a Potato Head Contest and a Singing Contest.

All proceeds will benefit St. Paul’s food baskets for the community.

Ranching History Presentation in First Friday Series


This week’s First Friday program  features Jane Hale talking about ranching in the local area during the late 1800’s  . She will also be showing historic pictures of that time period  to the public for the first time.

Hale will also tell the story of the families who moved west after the Civil war.

The free presentation starts at 6:30pm at the Bullion Plaza Museum and Cultural Center.

Janice Loreen Roberts of Globe passed away February 26 at Copper Mountain Inn. She was 70. She is survived by her daughter and 2 step children.
A Memorial Service for Janice Roberts will be held Saturday at 10:30am at Lamont Mortuary.

Blood Drive March 21


United Blood Services is having a Blood Drive on Thursday, March 21. Donations will be taken on that day from 9:am until 1:30pm.

Police Log


Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday afternoon at Connie’s Store.

Last night Globe Police arrested 22 year old Justin Fountain after responding to an alarm at a business on Cedar Street. Fountain was charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools.

47 year old Raymus Preston was arrested yesterday for shoplifting.

25 year old Christopher Mulholland   was arrested for driving with a revoked license.

The Gila County Task Force arrested 36 year old Shawn Williams for driving with a suspended license and a DPS warrant for obstructing a court order.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a damaged vehicle parked at the LDS Church in Claypool and a stolen wallet from a car parked on Springfield Road.

Globe Council Special Meeting


Globe City Council is having a Special Meeting today (Wednesday) at 5:pm.

The agenda includes items related to the Arizona Corporation Commisison and the Southeast Arizona Land Exchange bill.

Globe Police responded to a call about a customer dispute at a business on Highway 60. 44 year old Great Pathron of Whittier, California was arrested for impersonating a public servant.

23 year old Nicole Flores was arrested for shoplifting at a business on Highway 60.

Officers took a burglary report at a residence on North Main Street.

Two adults and two juveniles  were arrested after a man reported that his car had been egged. A Gila County Sheriff’s Deputy cited  21 year old Michael Cruz and 19 year old Ariana Tamayo  for disorderly conduct.

A Gila County Task Force Unit arrested 40 year old Gary Roberts for driving with a suspended license.

Obituaries


John Dickens of San Carlos passed away February 23 at Tucson Medical Center. He was 72. He is survived by his sisters Ruth Dosela and Rosa Dickens and his brother Franklin Dickens, Sr.
The wake for John Dickens is Saturday at 4:pm at the Ruth Dosela residence. The funeral is Sunday at 1:pm at San Carlos Miracle Church.

Eileen Hoffman of San Carlos passed away February 20 at Heritage Healthcare Center. She was 81. She is survived by her daughters Olivia Lacapa, Leona Kenton and Briana Patton; her son Leonard Hoffman; her sister; her brother; 5 half brothers and sisters; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
The wake  is Friday at 4:pm at the Eileen Hoffman residence.The funeral is Saturday at 10:am.

Public Meeting About Building Code Updates


A public meeting and open house will be held in Globe on Wednesday to introduce a proposal that would update Gila County building codes.

The meeting is from 2 to 4:pm  in the Gila County Administration Building conference room on Rose Mofford Way in Globe.

A second meeting will be held Thursday afternoon in Payson.

Community Day at GAAC


Wednesday is Community Day at the Globe Active Adult Center.

Everybody is invited to join them for lunch and meet new Globe City Manager Brent Billingsley.

The cost is $5 for those under 60 and $2.50 for 60 plus.

Police Log


Yesterday Globe Police arrested an adult and a juvenile in connection with the February 20 burglaries at Globe High School and Lynn’s School of Dance. Both 18 year old LeRoy Fluker and the juvenile were charged with burglary, aggravated criminal damage and disrupting an educational institution.

Officers are investigating a burglary at a residence on Birch.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of criminal damage and theft at the Cemex plant and a burglary on Pinal Canyon Drive.

Heart Health to be Discussed at GAAC


The Crossing Hospice will discuss Heart Health Tuesday at 10:30am at the Globe Active Adult Center.

Supervisors Meet Tuesday


The Gila County Board of Supervisors meets Tuesday at 10:am.

 The Work Session includes a discussion of the planned implementation of phase three security measures at the Globe Courthouse and the Payson Court Office Building.

The Supervisors will also discuss the 2013-2014 County Budget assumptions.

GCC Free Financial Aid Workshop


Gila Community College  presents  a free College Financial Aid Workshop  today (Monday) at 5:30 pm at the  Gila Pueblo Campus  Room 522.

The workshop is for students  planning to attend college in the fall of 2013.

There will be information about completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other relevant information.

One person was injured in an ATV accident Saturday in the Timber Camp area. The patient was flown to a Valley hospital.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident Saturday morning at 6th and Cedar Street.

There were no injuries in an accident Friday around noon on Highway 60.

Globe Police arrested 45 year old Glen Edwards yesterday for domestic violence/assault after a disturbance on Euclid.

Two people were arrested at a traffic stop late Saturday night. 36 year old Michelle Perez was charged with DUI. 41 year old James Licano had an outstanding warrant.

On Friday, 48 year old John Falquez was arrested for theft at a business on Jess Hayes Road.

32 year old Justin Alaniz was arrested on a failure to pay warrant for disorderly conduct/domestic violence.

Officers are investigating a theft at a residence on Birch Street; shoplifting at a business on Highway 60; shoplifting at a business on Hill Street; a burglary at a business on South Broad Street; and a  report of a threat taken at a business on Broad Street.

Miami Police arrested 49 year old Kenneth Gameros for false reporting to law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25 year old Rodney Spotted Elk for aggravated assault after a domestic disturbance at Four Star Mobile Home Park.

18 year old Keith Shank was arrested on Saturday for possession of drug paraphernalia and involving a minor in a drug offense.

27 year old  Tyler Scott was arrested for burglary and use of dangerous drugs.

64 year old Domingo Gonzales was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for possession of burglary tools.

Deputies are investigating a domestic incident at Four Star Mobile Home Park; a theft report taken in the Kellner Canyon area; and a delayed burglary report taken at a residence  on Remington Drive.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31 year old Cecil Sign of San Carlos on a failure to appear warrant for  aggravated DUI and driving with a suspended license.

The Department of Public Safety in Tucson arrested 21 year old David Blan of Globe on a failure to appear warrant for domestic violence/threats and intimidation.

Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30.

There will be a Public Hearing about the use of Community Devlopment Block Grant funds.

The Council will consider and possibly approve the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum lease agreement

Globe Council Meets Tonight

Jane Eck will have an update on the Globe Active Adult Center’s 3rd Annual Holiday Meal Campaign. She will also talk about the Senior Community Education Program.

The Council will consider awarding a $167,000 contract to Cummins Rocky Mountain for the Sewer Department Generator.

The agenda also includes a presentation about the Citizen Survey results.
