Miami Council Meets Monday at 6:30

Miami Town Council meets Monday at 6:30pm.

The Council will vote on the tentative Miami budget for 2013/2014.

The agenda also includes the installation of security cameras in Miami Veterans Memorial Park.


Globe Council Meets Monday at 6:00

Globe City Council meets Monday at 6:pm.

The agenda includes an agreement with the Arizona Department of Transportation Bridge Inspection Group for City of Globe Bridge Inspections.

The agenda also includes approval of the Signal Peak Community Foundation Youth Recreation Program Contract.

The Council will also discuss  an amendment to an agreement with ADOT for a Pavement Striping Rehabilitation Grant and a contract and licensing agreement with the East Valley Boys and Girls Club.

Police Log

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident yesterday afternoon on Ash Street. One driver was cited for failure to yield.

Globe Police arrested 43 year old Martin Cassadore yesterday morning for threatening an officer.

44 year old Elvis Kinney was arrested on a failure to appear warrant for public consumption.

Two people were arrested at a traffic stop late last night. 32 year old Soane Folau was charged with aggravated DUI. 32 year old Adam Garcia was arrested on warrants for disorderly conduct/domestic violence, assault and interfering with judicial proceedings.

Officers are investigating a theft from a vehicle on 6th Street; a theft at a residence on Ord Mountain Road; a theft at a business on South Russell Road; and shoplifting at a business on North Broad Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on Colt Drive. Globe PD stopped 45 year old Kevin Bowen.  Deputies charged Bowen with disorderly conduct/domestic violence and assault. Globe PD arrested him for DUI.

Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating criminal damage to a County building at Russell Road and Rose Mofford Way and a theft at the Cobre Valley Country Club.



City of Globe Code Enforcement

The City of Globe is advising the community of sign code violations that have been occurring.

Globe City Code prohibits “A” frame signs  and portable signs of any kind. It also prohibits signs on business or commercial vehicles that are parked primarily for display as advertising signs.

If you have these types of signs, the City of Globe asks that you remove them by July 1. After that, signs will be subject to further action, including removal by the City.

Miami Music in the Park

The first Miami Music in the Park event of the summer begins tomorrow (Saturday) evening at 6:30 at Miami’s Veterans Memorial Park.

In addition to the music there will be root beer floats and a barbecue beef dinner for $8.


Obituary

Sandra C. Alexander passed away June 5. She is survived by her husband Robert; her daughter; 3 sisters; and 5 grandchildren.
The funeral for Sandra Alexander is today (Friday) at 3:pm at Miles Funeral Services Globe.

Historic Globe Cemetery Tours

Special tours of the Historic Globe Cemetery will be given on Saturday. The tours include historical accounts of the people buried there and about the beginning of the Globe-Miami area.

Tours will leave the 1910 Sheriff’s Office and Jail beginning at 6:30pm and continue through 9:30.

They cost $15 a person. Tickets are available at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts or call 425-0884.

Elizabeth Zache Memorial Keystone Stair Climb

The Elizabeth Zache Memorial Keystone Stair Climb begins Saturday (June 22) at 6:am.

Elizabeth Zache loved climbing the Keystone stairs on her birthday. She conquered the stairs in 5 minutes and 9 seconds on her 90th birthday. She climbed them in 8 minutes and 14 seconds on her 96th birthday. 

She passed away on January 23.

This Saturday’s climb is not a timed event and there are no trophies. Reservations are not required. The event falls on what would have been Elizabeth’s 97th birthday.

Everybody will meet on the corner of Keystone Avenue and Gibson Street in Miami on Saturday at 6:am.


Free Friday Family Movies Return to Globe Library

Starting this week the Globe Public Library will again be showing free movies for children and families every Friday at 2:pm.

The library is also hosting free game time on Fridays from 10:am until Noon.


Woman Injured in Garbage Truck

A Globe woman is in stable condition after falling asleep in a trash bin that was loaded into a garbage truck.

38 year old Jessica Bunyar was found yesterday (Wednesday) morning after the driver compacted his load 8 to 10 times before realizing Bunyar was there.

A bystander heard a voice and saw a head pop out of the truck. That’s when the driver immediately shut down the truck and called 911.

Bunyar was airlifted to Scotsdale Healthcare-Osborne Medical Center.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 51 year old Debra Tidwell for disorderly conduct/domestic violence after a disturbance on Six Shooter Canyon.

28 year old Floratina Faden was arrested for possession of dangerous drugs after a domestic dispute in Alhambra Mobile Home Park.

A criminal damage report was taken at the Gila County Landfill.

Globe Police arrested 18 year old Gibson Nosie for domestic violence/disorderly contact after a disturbance on Saguaro Drive.

27 year old Margaret Randall was arrested for criminal damage at a business on South Broad Street.

40 year old Mark Zaye was arrested  yesterday afternoon for assault.

52 year old Annette Macktima was arrested by Globe Police for shoplifting.

32 year old Audra Gilmore was arrested on a failure to pay warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Officers are investigating criminal damage at the Rose Mofford Center and a theft at a business on South Street.

Globe School Board Meets Tonight

The Globe School Board meets tonight (Wednesday) at 6:00 in the High Desert Middle School Auditorium..

Local fire agencies quickly put out a brush fire yesterday morning in the Kellner Canyon area.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident late yesterday morning on Hospital Drive.

Globe Police arrested 22 year old Hillary Garcia for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers are investigating a delayed burglary report taken at a residence on Highland Drive and a disorderly conduct report taken at a residence on Hill Street.

Miami Police arrested 36 year old Shawn Williams for driving with a suspended license.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27 year old Audrey Poeling on failure to comply warrants for endangering the life of a minor, shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Graham County Sheriff’s Office arrested 21 year old David Blan of Globe on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct and threats and intimidation.


Obituaries

Margaret E. Bilson passed away June 14 at her home in Globe. She was 67. She is survived by her brother Edward.
Visitation for Margaret Bilson is tomorrow (Thursday) at 9:30am at Miles Funeral Services Globe. The funeral is at 10:00.

Janie Alvarado Rodriguez passed away June 15. She was 93. She is survived by 6 children; 2 sisters; 20 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.
Rosary for Janie Rodriguez is Friday at 9:am at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Mass is at 9:30.

Hardscrabble Series Presents Music by John Hargett

The final program of the season in the Miami Hardscrabble series is   “Songs of Gila County.”

The program features singer John Hargett, grandson of Edward Hargett, better known as “Tamale Joe” in his earlier days.

The program starts at 6:30pm at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum. There is no charge.


Miami Council Work Session

The Miami Town Council will have a Work Session on Wednesday at 6:pm.

During the public meeting the Council and staff will discuss the 2013-2014 budget.


Santee Street Closed Until 3:PM

Sullivan Paving is continuing the asphalt repair on Santee Street today (Tuesday).

Santee Street is closed between Bancroft and Collins until around 3:pm.

A criminal damage report was taken at a business on Highway 60.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a theft at a residence on Marlin  and an assault reported at BHP.

Supervisors Meet Tuesday

The Gila County Board of Supervisors will have a Work Session  on Tuesday at 10:am.

The agenda includes reappointments to the Industrial Development Board of Directors.

Public Comments Wanted for Phillips Asbestos Mine Site

Tonto National Forest officials are requesting public comment on the Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis for the Phillips Asbestos Mines, Mill and Mining Camp Site located in the Globe Ranger District.

The deadline for comments is Monday, July 15.

The purpose of the report is to present a detailed analysis of asbestos cleanup alternatives

Obituary

Kenneth L. Cothrun of Globe passed away June 13 at Banner Baywood Medical Center in Mesa. He was 87. He is survived by his wife Patsy; his daughter; 2 sons including Ronald Cothrun of Globe; 2 sisters; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Kenneth Cothrun is Friday from 6 to 7:30pm at Lamont Mortuary. The funeral is Saturday at 10:am at Miami First Baptist Church.


Gila County Transportation Study Public Meeting

A public meeting about the Gila County Transportation Study will be held Wednesday (June 19) from 6 to 8:pm at the Gila County Courthouse.


The Gila County Transportation Study will look at current and future transportation needs. This includes roadways, safety, pavement management, transportation finance, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

Nobody was hurt in a hit and run accident Friday afternoon on Highway 60.

Yesterday afternoon Globe Police arrested 42 year old Leonidas Estrada of Safford  for obstructing a roadway on Highway 60.

A shoplifting investigation resulted in the arrest of 28 year old Keith Hopkins.

33 year old Norma Carrasco was arrested Saturday afternoon for aggravated assault on a peace officer.

47 year old Orien Newman was arrested for shoplifting and public consumption at the Hill Street Safeway.

35 year old James Bertoldo was arrested for DUI.

Jessica Lara was arrested for assault Friday night at a business on Baseline Spur.

Officers are investigating shoplifting at a business on Highway 60; a theft at a residence on North Main Street; criminal damage at a residence on North Broad Street; criminal damage at a residence on Skyline Drive; and criminal damage at a business on Highway 60.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office cited and released 19 year old Darie Roehm for driving with a suspended license.

22 year old Morgan Powell was arrested for violation of a court order.

24 year old Ruben Mageno was arrested on Saturday for burglary, theft and trafficking in stolen property.

40 year old Angel Rosales was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for disorderly conduct.

28 year old Jessica Morales was arrested on a contempt of court warrant for criminal trespass.

On Friday 27 year old Rena Hill was arrested at a residence on Calle De Loma for criminal damage/domestic violence, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Deputies are investigating a burglary at Four Star Mobile Home Park.



Globe Council Meets Tonight

The City of Globe will have a Special Joint City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting today (Monday) at 5:pm. It includes a presentation by Felipe Zubia of Reseed Advisors and Arizona Urban Land Institute Executive Director Deb Sydenham.

A Globe City Council Work Session follows at 6:00. It includes annual updates from the Gila County Historical Society, the Southern Gila County Economic Development Corporation, the Center for the Arts and Globe Mainstreet.

The agenda also includes an Intergovernmental Agreement with Gila County to provide funding for Meals on Wheels and On Site Diners who live in Gila County but outside the Globe City Limits.
