Globe Library Open House

The Globe Public Library is hosting its annual holiday Open House next week (December 16-20) from 9:am until 2:pm.

The Friends of the Globe Public Library will be there on Wednesday to greet visitors and recruit new members.

Take a look around the book barn, and browse the special book sale of “like new” books inside the library, suitable for holiday giving.

CVRMC Cancels Contract with Billing Service Over Collection Letter Mailings

If you received a bad debt collection letter from Credit Control LLC about an invoice from Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center, disregard it. It was an error.

The hospital apologizes for the confusion and frustration this has caused.

Credit Control LLC is a third party, self-pay billing service. Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center has canceled its contract with this company because of this incident.

Neither your account nor any of your personal information has been sent to collections.

Police Log

There were several traffic accidents yesterday in Globe. No injuries were reported. A two vehicle collision occurred yesterday morning on Oak Street. A single vehicle accident and a two car collision on North Broad Street were reported yesterday afternoon.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a domestic incident on Globe Avenue and a stolen vehicle reported at the Claypool Circle K.


Obituaries

Ramon Martinez of San Carlos passed away December 7 at Vista Medical Center in Mesa. He was 47. He is survived by his wife Twila; 4 children, including Cheyenne Martinez of San Carlos; his sister; and 2 grandchildren.
The wake for Ramon Martinez is tomorrow (Saturday) at 4:pm at the Martinez residence. The funeral is Sunday at 1:pm.

James William Everett passed away Tuesday at his home in Globe. He was 78.
No public services will be held for James Everett.

Globe Library Craft Time

The Globe Public Library presents Family Holiday Craft Time on Friday from 11:am to 1:30pm.

Globe Light Parade Saturday

The annual Light Parade in historic downtown Globe begins Saturday at 6:pm.

Police Log

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 20 year old Chelsea Cluster at a business on Highway 60 for organized retail theft.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40 year old Shirley Henry on a warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Deputies are investigating a domestic incident on North Elton Jones Ranch Road; a theft on South Street; criminal damage on South Central Avenue; and harassment reported on Grover Canyon and in Wheatfields.


Obituary

Matthew Everett Sanchez passed away December 5 at Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center. He was 22. He is survived by his sons Jacob and Matthew Sanchez, Jr.; his parents Gary Sanchez and Shannon Barley; 4 brothers; his sister; his grandfather and his grandmother.
The wake for Matthew Sanchez, Sr. is today (Thursday) at 11:am at the Gary Sanchez residence. The funeral is tomorrow (Friday) at 10:am at Burdette Hall.

Christmas Classics at Hollis Cinema

Hollis Cinema is showing the movie “A Christmas Story” Thursday at 6:30pm. Tickets are $5 and available at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts and at Hollis Cinema an hour before showtime.  Proceeds will benefit the Center for the Arts.

Next Thursday (December 19) you can see the 1945 Christmas classic “Christmas in Connecticut.” That film also starts at 6:30 and will benefit the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts.


Police Log

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office Task Force arrested 49 year old William Laborine on a child support warrant.

22 year old William Lagunas was arrested on a warrant for false reporting to law enforcement.

23 year old Ashkeya Vallejos was arrested on an Apache County warrant for possession of dangerous drugs.

Deputies took reports of a missing juvenile in Miami Gardens and a disturbance at a residence on Russell Road.

Globe Police are investigating a report of criminal damage at a business on West Mesquite.


Obituaries

David A. Brown, Sr. passed away December 4 at his home in Peridot. He was 58. He is survived by his daughter Nana Brown; his son David Brown, Jr.; his brother; 2 sisters; 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Visitation for David Brown, Sr. is this morning at San Carlos Miracle Church. The funeral is at 1:pm.

Helen LeCompte of Globe passed away December 5. She was 90. She is survived by 5 children, including Larry LeCompte of Globe; 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Graveside services for Helen LeCompte will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Baptist Church.

MJSHS Holiday Concert

The Miami Secondary Music Program will present their Holiday Concert next Tuesday, December 17. It will be in the Miami High School Auditorium starting at 7:pm.

The High School Band, Choir, and Junior High Band will perform.

Admission is free.


Police Log

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 49 year old Richard Baca on failure to appear warrants for driving with a suspended license.

45 year old Howard Bunch was arrested on a Department of Public Safety warrant for  driving with a suspended license.

Deputies are investigating a telephone scam reported at a residence in Six Shooter Canyon, and thefts reported on Winchester Drive and El Camino.

Globe Police are investigating a burglary on South Sutherland.

Police Log

Yesterday the Department of Public Safety arrested 30 year old Heidi Godoy on a child support warrant.

On Saturday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34 year old Jess Perez on a failure to pay warrant for DUI.

Deputies are investigating a domestic incident on Upper Pinal Creek Road; identity theft reported at the Spring Creek Store; burglaries on Calle De Loma, Long Street and Cypress Drive; threats reported on Miami Gardens Drive; property damage on Remington Road; trespassing in the area of Copper Cities; and harassment reported at Pueblo Heights Mobile Home Park and on Beer tree Crossing.

On Friday Globe Police arrested 21 year old Jenna Smith on a failure to appear warrant for hindering prosecution.

28 year old Tyler Scott was arrested on a child support warrant.

The Miami School Board meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30 in the Miami High School Library.


Obituaries

Angela Ruth Flores of Globe passed away November 24. She was 49. She is survived by her mother Angela Everett; her significant other Mike Russell; her brothers Manuel and Daniel Flores; and her sisiters Lisa Barcon and Nordessa Sessions.
A Memorial Service for Angela Flores will be held Thursday, December 12 at 2:pm at Bulman Miles Funeral Services in Globe.

Donald Edward McBride of Globe passed away November 27. He was 65. He is survived by his brother Mike and his sister Iona.
A Memorial Service for Donald McBride will be announced.


Miami Council Meets Tonight at 6:30

Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30.

The Council will consider a proposed Request for Proposals for Bullion Plaza Gym management services.

They will consider a request for a Tobacco-Free Policy for Miami Veterans Memorial Park.

The agenda also includes a presentatuion and discussion of the Bullion Plaza Quarterly Report.

Globe Council Meets Tonight at 6:00

Globe City Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:00.

District 6 Councilmember Larry Alderman will take the Oath of Office.

There will be presentations about the Fish and Wildlife Services wolf proposals and from the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Council will also discuss the Library Parking Modifications.
