San Carlos High School Registration begins on Monday. Seniors register Monday, Juniors will register on Tuesday, Sophomres on Wednesday, and Freshmen on Thursday.
Registration is from 9:am until 4:30pm. Parent meetings have been scheduled for each evening at 5:pm in the cafeteria.
Classes begin on August 3.

Police Log
A car crashed into a house and into the living room early this morning on Roberts Drive in Little Acres. Nobody was hurt. A 17 year old juvenile was arrested for underage consumption, aggravated assault, endangerment and criminal damage.
A motorcyclist received minor injuries yesterday morning when her motorcycle slipped on some dirt at Ash and 7th Street.
Globe Police responded to a burglary in progress last night at a residence on Sotol Loop. The homeowners returned to find a man in their house. The man fled on foot. 49 year old Jack Stokes of Payson was apprehended a short time later and booked on charges of burglary and possession of stolen property.
Gila County Task Force arrested 31 year old Renea Haddick on warrants for failure to appear on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia involving methamphetamine and burglary.
Globe Police are investigating a burglary at a residence on Escalera and a burglary at the Community Center.

McKay Miller, Jr. of San Carlos passed away last Friday at Arizona Heart Hospital in Phoenix. He was 63. He is survived by his wife Julianna; 3 sons; 3 daughters; and 2 brothers.

Help Send All Stars to State Playoffs
An evening of family fun is planned for Saturday at the Little League Fields in Claypool to raise money to send the local Little League All Stars to the state playoffs in Peoria.
Hot dog and hamburger plates, sodas and water will be sold. There will also be music, raffles and silent auctions. Any and all donations are welcome.

A Blood drive is being held tomorrow (Friday) from 8:30 until 1:00 at the Pinal Mountain Elks.

Arizona Could Receive $6.2 Million for Rebate Program
Arizona could receive $6.2 million for its state run rebate program for consumer purchases of new Energy Star qualified home applianaces. US Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced this week that a total of $300 million will be available nationwide from stimulus funds.
To get the funds, states must file an initial application by August 15 and a full one by October 15. States will receive 10% of the money after the initial application.
The program covers all appliances, heating and cooling equipment and water heaters.

FHWA Approves Additional Funds for Highway 60
Miami Mayor Chuy Canizales says that the Federal Highway Administration has approved adding the funds needed to replace the collector system lines under highway 60 through Miami during the upcoming repaving project. State highway officials submitted the request to the federal agency on Monday.
Canizales says this adds $1.85 million to the repaving project, but it is necessary in order to assure the health and safety of residents and highway users.

Two people suffered smoke inhalation in a fire last night in the Holiday Hills Mobile Home Park. Tri City Fire firefighters found a minor fire and light smoke coming from the kitchen area. The home suffered minimal damage.
Tri City EMS personnel treated Gerald and Joyce McNeely for smoke inhalation and then took them to Cobre Valley Community Hospital for further evaluation.

78% of Arizonans Support Updating
1872 Mining Act
A recent survey conducted by Public Opinion Strategies shows that 78% of Arizonans support updating the 1872 Mining Act.
A press release from the Arizona Wildlife Federation and Trout Unlimited says that provisions being considered in Congress include protection for environmentally sensitive areas and fair royalty fees to reimburse taxpayers for minerals extracted from their land.
The people surveyed support several changes to the 1872 law, including requirements for mining companies to pay royalty fees similar to thiose paid by oil, coal and gas companies. They also support the idea of allowing mining companies to lease the land they are mining instead of selling federal land to mining companies. And those surveyed support holding mining companies responsible for any damage they cause to the land and water by strengtheneing air and water pollution standards.
Local leaders are also concerned that current federal poicy allows the mining industry to operate next to Arizona icons like the Grand Canyon.
Free Suicide Prevention Training
The Bylas STEPP Coalition is hosting two free QPR suicide prevention training sessions on August 10. "QPR" stands for Question, Persuade and Refer, three steps to help prevent suicide.
The sessions are co-sponsored by Southeastern Arziona Behavioral Health Services and
Community Partnership of Southeastern Arizona.
QPR is the most widely taught gatekeeper training program in the United States. More than 700,000 adults have been trained in classroom settings in 48 states.
The first training will be held in the morning on August 10 at the Fort Thomas Unified School District for all school personnel. The afternoon session will be held for all interested Bylas community members at the Bylas Learning Center.

Bejarano 'Back to School Festival' August 4
Bejarano Elementary School will host a Back to School Festival on Tuesday, August 4, beginning at 5:pm. Activities include parent workshops, classroom visits, community services and a hamburger/hot dog fry. There will also be drawings for door prizes.

Representative Ann Kirkpatrick says she has signed on as a co-sponsor to the nonpartisan Federal Reserve Transparency Act. The bill calls for an audit of the Federal Reserve to shed light on its operations and check the government’s power. Kirkpatrick says the Federal Reserve has been allowed to operate with little oversight for decades and we are paying the price for it.
The bill has more than 260 co-sponsors from across the political spectrum, including the entire Arizona delegation.
