Report Says 95% of 'Green' Products Aren't

A new survey suggests that more than 95% of consumer products marketed as “green” make misleading or inaccurate claims. In its “Sins of Greenwashing” report, the TerraChoice marketing firm says only 4.5% of the products it studied made accurate claims. (But that’s up from 2% last year.)

A spokesman says the biggest problems are making claims without any proof and “vagueness.” To find out more about the survey go to sinsofgreenwashing.org.

Salvation Army Making Appointments for Christmas Assistance

The Salvation Army of Globe will start making appointments for Christmas assistance on Monday, November 1. Appointments can be made by calling 425-4011.
The application appointments will be held from November 8 through 12.

Prescribed Burn on San Carlos Reservation

A prescribed burn on the San Carlos Apache Reservation is scheduled to begin tomorrow (Wednesday) and continue through November 5. The plan is to burn 6200 acres in Arrowhead and Phillips Park Tank located 12 miles east of Hilltop Ranch.
The smoke may cause poor visibility and temporary road closures near the burn. It’s deer season so hunters need to be aware of fire personnel.

Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 56 year old Russell Powell yesterday on a child support warrant.

Globe Police are investigating a burglary at a residence on East Maple and a theft at Pizza Hut.

Sylvan Ridenhour passed away Saturday at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife Cappy; his son Monty; his sister; and 5 grandchildren.
Services for “Ike” Ridenhour will be private.

Charlie B. Foxworth, Jr. has passed away at the age of 66. He is survived by his wife Jacquie; his brother; 3 sisters, including Virginia Williamson of Central Heights; 8 children, including Mary Hundley of Wheatfields, and Jill Fuller and Charlie Foxworth III of Globe; 28 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
The funeral for Charlie Foxworth, Jr. will be Saturday at 10:30am at St. Paul’s Methodist Church.

Mariana Enriquez Pacheco Acosta of Miami passed away last week. She was 98. She is survived by 4 daughters; 16 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 28 great great grandchildren.
Visitation for Mariana Acosta is tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9:am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.

Raffle Tickets Available for Idea House

The Globe Public Library Idea House will be held on November 20 from 11 until 4 at the Gotto residence.

Public Forum About Adult Foster Care

Pinal/Gila Long Term Care presents a public forum tomorrow (Tuesday) at 1:pm. The goal is to increase the types of community-based settings in the area by providing alternatives to institutionalized health care. A panel of experts will be there to give information and answer questions about adult foster care homes.

Supervisiors Meet Tuesday

Gila County Board of Supervisors meets tomorrow (Tuesday) morning at 10:00. They’ll be introduced to Legislative District 5 senate candidate Elaine Bohlmeyer. They’ll hold a Public Hearing on the revised Floodplain Management Ordinance. The Supervisors will consider a Resolution to set up a Public Hearing to discuss a merger of the Cobre Valley Sanitary District and the Pinal Sanitary District. And they’ll proclaim October 30 “Weatherization Day’ in Gila County.

Sign Up for Miami Veterans Day Parade

The Town of Miami is having a Veterans Day Parade, ceremony, concert in the park and cookout on Thursday, November 11.
The Town invites all local businesses, government offices, high school groups, motorcycle groups and individual families to sign up to be in the parade. There is no charge. You can pick up an application at Miami Town Hall.

Obituary

Leon Frank Poe passed away last week at his home in Globe. He was 90. He is survived by his sons Gerald, Claude, and Russell; his step daughter Donna; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A graveside service for Leon Poe will be held Saturday at 11:am at Fairview Cemetery in Superior.

Miami Council Meets Tonight

Miami Town Council meets tonight (Monday) at 6:30. The Council will discuss a status report on the Brownsfield Site Assessment Grant; the revised Community Development Block Grant application; and the USDA application for the Miami Memorial Library, the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum, and the Barcon/Fitzpatrick Building.

They’ll also discuss changing the Town of Miami Substance Abuse Policy from second chance to a zero tolerance policy.

There was an injury accident late Friday morning on Highway 60 at Manor Drive. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle accident Friday morning on North Broad Street.

Globe Police arrested 33 year old Dorothea Steele yesterday for domestic violence/criminal damage at an address on Euclid.

19 year old Macy Alonzo was arrested Friday afternoon for domestic violence/assault at an address on Hunter Drive.

20 year old Nicco Balesteros was arrested for misconduct involving a weapon.

23 year old Shirrell Fairfield was arrested late Friday night for DUI.

51 year old Robertson Chatlin was arrested late Saturday night on warrants for driving with a suspneded license and suspended registration.

Globe Police are investigating a hit and run accident that occurred yesterday morning at the Globe Community Center; a report of a theft from a vehicle at Jerry’s restaurant; a burglary at a residence on Globe Street; and a theft of property from Pinal Mountain Apartments.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a theft at Alhambra Mobile Hme Park; a burglary at a residence on Golden Hill; a burglary at a residence on Cypress; and criminal damage to a residence in Pueblo Heights Mobile Home Park.

Hanson Duane of Peridot passed away last week at San Carlos Hospital. He was 75. He is survived by his children Berlinda Gilbert, Sandra Kindelay, Shirlyn Duane and Anthony Duane.
The wake for Hanson Duane is today (Monday) at 4:pm at the Duane residence. The funeral will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11:am at Peridot Lutheran Church.

Arthur Clayton of Miami passed away Saturday at Heritage Healthcare Center. He was 92. A graveside service will be held in Riverside, California.
