Miami Council May Appoint Town Manager Tonight

Miami Town Council holds a Special Meeting tonight (Wednesday) at 5:30. They’ll go into Executive Session to discuss applicant Robert Millspaw for Town Manager. The Council will then return to the public Special Meeting and possibly appoint a Town Manager from the candidates David Teel, Aaron Palmer, Steve Christensen, Jerry Barnes and Robert Millspaw.

Prescribed Burn Continues on San Carlos Reservation

A prescribed burn on the San Carlos Apache Reservation continues through Friday. Smoke may cause poor visibility at times and temporarily close roads near the burn. The burn is in Arrowhead and Phillps Park Tank, located 12 miles east of Hilltop Ranch.

Election Results

Republicans scored major victories statewide in the 2010 midterm elections. Here in US Congressional District One, Republican Paul Gosar defeated incumbent Ann Kirkpatrick. Gosar had almost 50% of the vote, Kirkpatrick around 44%.

Sylvia Allen has been elected state Senator from Legislative District 5. She received two thirds of the votes, defeating Democrat Elaine Bohlmeyer.

In the race for state Representative from District 5, the top two vote getters were Brenda Barton, who received nearly 34% of the votes, followed by Chester Crandell with just under 32%.

Gary Goetteman is the new Globe Justice of the Peace. He received more than 55% of the votes. Kevin Nolan received just under 37%.

Frankie Dalmolin received just under 37% of the votes for Globe School Board. Glen Robison had a little over 17%. They were the top two.

Robert Ashford was reelected to the Gila Community College Governing Board with more than 69% of the votes.

Ken Bennett keeps his job as Arizona Secretary of State and Tom Horne is the new Arizona Attorney General.

Forest 'No Fee' Day on November 11

The final Tonto National Forest “no fee” day of the year will be on Veterans Day, next Thursday, November 11. No Tonto Passes will be required except at some concessionaire-operated campgrounds.

Globe School Board Meets Wednesday

The Globe School Board meets tomorrow (Wednesday) at 6:pm. It starts with a Public Hearing on Structured Recess for grades 4 to 6. The Regular Meeting follows at 6:20. The Board will go into an Executive Session following the Regular Meeting to conduct a hearing on a recommendation to expel or suspend a student.

Post Secondary Education Fair Today

The 2nd Annual Southern Gila County Post Secondary Education Fair takes place today (Tuesday) from 9 until 2. The fair is hosted by Freeport McMoRan and is sponsored by Gila County School Superintendent Linda O’Dell, the Southern Gila County College Preparatory Academy and Signal Peak Community Foundation.

The fair will be open to the public from 12:30 until 2. Forty post secondary agencies and community organizations will be there.

Police Log

The Gila County Sheriff's Office arrested 24 year old Scott Powell for domestic violence/disorderly conduct/fighting.

Globe Police arrested 20 year old Brennan Rhodes on a warrant for possession and use of marijuana.

Glendale Police arrested 48 year old David McGarry of Claypool on warrants for disorderly conduct/fighting, aggravated harassment, domestic violence, interfering with a judicial proceeding, and threats and intimidation.

Obituaries

Kathleen C. Horne of Miami passed away Sunday at Faubush Family Homes. She was 85. She is survived by her daughters Nancy and Denise Home; her sister; and 2 brothers.
A graveside service for Kathleen Home will be held tomorrow (Wednesday) at 10:30am at Pinal Cemetery in Central Heights. A Memorial Service will be held Friday at 10:30am at Lamont Mortuary.
The family requests that memorials be sent to Divine Grace Presbyterian Church or St. Mary’s Food Bank.

Ralph Walter Swindler of Roosevelt passed away Saturday. He was 66. He is survived by his wife Dolly; 2 sons; 2 sisters; his brother; 7 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Visitation for Ralph Swindler will be Thursday at 9:am at Miles Funeral Services Globe. A graveside service will be held Thursday at Noon at Fairview Cemetery in Superior.

Next Second Wednesday Program is on November 10

“Finding Your Ancestors” will be the topic of the Second Wednesday program next Wednesday, November 10, at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum. Lynne Perry will give a presentation on how to search out your relatives. The emphasis will be on using the Internet. The program is free to the public.

Planning Meeting for San Carlos Community Thanksgiving Dinner

San Carlos Apache Tribal Social Services will hold the next planning meeting for the Community Thanksgiving Dinner this Wednesday at noon. The meeting will be in the Geronimo Conference Room. Tribal employees will serve the community at the dinner on Wednesday, November 17 at 11:am.

Members of the community are also invited to share your musical or other talents at the event. Everyone is asked to bring clean sweaters, jackets or coats for the elders. For more information contact Tribal Social Services at 475- 2313.

Kirkpatrick Staff Office Hours Postponed

The Globe office hours of Representative Ann Kirkpatrick’s staff scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed. Office hours will resume on Wednesday, November 10 at the Gila County Courthouse.

Elks Hoop Shoot November 13

The Pinal Mountain Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot will run from 9:am until Noon on Saturday, November 13. It will be at the Lee Kornegay Jr. High School gym.

Police Log

A 10 year old boy received minor injuries from a vehicle/bicycle accident yesterday at Monroe and Fegan Streets.

Nobody was hurt in an accident last night near the Globe Theater.

One person was taken to the hospital Saturday after a car vs. motorcycle accident in Country Club Manor.

Saturday night the Globe Fire Department responded to a gas spill at the Express Stop.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 47 year old Tammy Brown for domestic violence and assault.

Superior Police arrested 31 year old Gary Hayes of Globe on a warrant for probation violation.

On Saturday the Gila County Sheriff’s office arrested 46 year old Robert Strimple of Roosevelt for domestic violence/assault.

Globe Police arrested 18 year old Rafael Anaya for DUI. Two passengers were booked and released for underage consumption.

Officers are investigating an assault report taken at Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center; a domestic complaint on Euclid Avenue; a burglary from a vehicle on South East Street: a burglary at a business in downtown Globe; a burglary of a storage unit at Copper Country Mobile Home Park; a theft at Mesquite and Devereaux; a theft report taken at a residence on High Street; and a report of criminal damage on Maurel Street.

Obituary

Longtime Globe-Miami resident Opal U. White passed away October 24. She was 90. She is survived by 6 children, including Patricia Williams of Globe; 12 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
Services for Opal White will be Sunday (November 7) at 1:pm at the Pinal Mountain Elks Lodge.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center Foundation or the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts.

Arthur Joseph Clayton passed away October 23 at Heritage Healthcare Center. He was 92. He is survived by 2 brothers; his daughter Lynne Clayton Cooley of Globe; 2 sons; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchilden.
A graveside service for Arthur Clayton will be held on November 9 in Riverside, California.
