Starting today, the Globe Senior Center will offer free legal assistance for seniors every Friday at 10:am.

Police Log
Miami Police arrested 28 year old Broderick Secody yesterday for disorderly conduct/domestic violence.
Globe Police and EMS were dispatched to the Seventh Street Circle K late last night after a call about a man having chest pains. 46 year old Robert Holy was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center. A records check showed that Holy had an outstanding warrant. He was arrested and booked after he left the hospital.
Globe Police are investigating a report of credit card theft and an ongoing criminal damage problem at an address on Hunter Drive.

Sandra Kay Bray passed away Saturday in Bullhwead City. She was 62. She is survived by 2 children; 6 step children; her brother; 2 sisters; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The funeral for Sandra Kay Bray will be Saturday, November 20 at LaMont Mortuary.
Edwin Wallace Powell passed away Tuesday at his home in Globe. He was 64. He is survived by his wife Judith and his sister Izora Van Der Voort.
A Memorial Service for Edwin Powell will be announced later.
The family suggests that memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.

Local Transit Faces Funding
Cuts
Local transportation services—like just about everything else that actually helps people—are facing possible funding cuts. You can help by telling the Arizona Transit Association about your experiences using public transportation services such as Cobre Valley Community Transit.
Go to the “Tell Your Transit Story” survey at www.AzTA.org. They will put some of the stories on the website to help elected officials and the public understand the critical role that transit plays in the lives of Arizonans.
Portion of SR 88 Will Close for Repairs
The Arizona Department of Transportation will close a four-mile segment of State Route 88—the Apache Trail—for two months beginning Monday (November 15). The closure is near Fish Creek Hill. It will provide a safe work zone for repairs to retaining walls and sections of the roadway.
Roosevelt Lake and Apache Lake are accessible by State Route 188. Canyon Lake and recreation facilities are still accessible by State Route 88 and so is Lost Dutchman State Park.

Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign
The local Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign begins on November 20 and continues until Christmas Eve. The hours are 10:am until 6:pm. The program helps the Salvation Army provide Christmas food and toys to families in the Globe-Miami-Claypool and San Carlos area.
Salvation Army Christmas kettles will be at both Safeways, Walmart, Fry’s and Basha’s.
As of today (November 11), 130 families have applied for assistance, with more to come. If you’d like to Adopt-a-Family through the Salvation Army, call 425-4011.
Miami Garbage Pickup Holiday Changes
Miami has made some holiday changes to its garbage pickup schedule. The pickup scheduled for today (Thursday) has been moved to tomorrow.

There were a couple of injury accidents yesterday afternoon in Globe. The first occurred on Highway 60 at Hilltop. One driver was cited for failure to control her vehicle to avoid an accident. One patient was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center.
A pedestrian was struck by a car at East and Ash Streets. The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

The Town of Miami Veterans Day Parade starts this morning (Thursday) at 10:15. The parade will go from the Bullion Plaza Museum to Miami Memorial Park. The Veterans Day ceremony starts at 11:00. It will be followed by a concert and cookout in the park.

GCC Board Member Resigns from Legislative Task Force
A Gila Community College Governing Board member has resigned from the legislative task force that was formed to look for ways to make the college independent. Tom Loeffler told the Payson Roundup that “pettiness and politics” prompted him to resign.
The college Governing Board recently decided not to approve a resolution supporting the task force’s goal of seeking independence from Eastern Arizona College. All three of the board members from southern Gila County said they didn’t have enough information about proposed legislation to change the financial thresholds keeping Gila County from operating an independent college. Loeffler and the other board member from northern Gila County voted in favor of the resolution.
State Senator Sylvia Allen says she will appoint a new task force member from the Payson area. She says she is still committed to pursuing Gila Community College independence.

One person was flown out for medical evaluation after an accident yesterday afternoon at Second and Cedar Streets. One vehicle was towed from the scene.
A Globe Police officer was dispatched to Highway 60 near J & S Towing after a call about a man lying on the side of the roadway. 41 year old Elvis Kinney was contacted. After a records check, Kinney was arrested on two outstanding warrants.
About 11:00 last night an officer contacted 3 people in the area behind Globe High school. A 16 year old juvenile was refferred to juvenile probation. 18 year old Ernest Victor was arrested for underage consumption. 18 year old Jonathan Ramirez was charged with underage consumption and false reporting to law enforcemnent.
Graham County Sheriff’s Office arrested 46 year old Katherine Riggan of Globe on a warrant for disorderly conduct and fighting.
The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating criminal damage to a vehicle and to the lawn at a residence on Broadway, and animal cruelty that occurred in the creek on Railroad Avenue.
Globe Police are investigating burglary from an auto on North Fourth Street and criminal damage at a residence on Crestwood Drive.

Food and Plant Demonstrations
The Tonto Ranger District will present a demonstration of “Foods of the Superstitions” and “Plants of the Sonoran Desert” on Saturday and Sunday, November 20 and 21. The presentations will be from 10:am until 4:pm at the Roosevelt Lake Visitor Center, hosted by authors Don Wells and Jean Groen.
'Finding Your Ancestors'
Tomorrow’s Second Wednesday event is a program on how to use the Internet to find information about your relatives and ancestors. The program is free. It starts at 7:00 at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum.
