Gila County Historical Museum Director Bill Haak announced his resignation yesterday at the museum’s Board of Directors meeting. Haak says it is time for him to enjoy traveling and devote more time to other interests. Haak has been the director of the museum for 13 years.
Author and historian Donna Anderson was appointed the new director, effective immediately.
Haak says he will remain a docent and work on other projects at the museum to help make the transition easier.

Burglars Steal Office Items and Destroy Food Donations at Food Bank
The Globe branch of the Gila Community Food Bank was burglarized on Sunday. An unknown person or persons broke in, destroyed an undetrminable amount of donated food items, and stole essential office items. The burglar or burglars also stole the Food Bank van and maliciously wrecked it near the Globe Cemetery. Volunteers now have to use their personal vehicles to collect food for the hungry.
In a press release yesterday the Gila Community Food Bank said these destructive actions will not stop them from serving more than 500 hungry families in the Globe-Miami area.

Nobody was hurt in a one vehicle accident late yesterday morning near the El Rey Motel.
There were no injuries in an accident yesterday afternoon near Fry’s. One person was cited for failure to control a vehicle to avoid an accident.
Globe Police are investigating a burglary at a business on Pine Street; a vehicle burglary at a residence on Surmont Street; and criminal damage at a residence on Apache Street.

Globe Library Needs Volunteers
Globe Public Library is moving back into their building tomorrow (Tuesday) after construction work. Volunteers are needed after 2:pm to help move books back into the building and to get the library reorganized.

Starting tomorrow (Tuesday), the 400 block of South High Street will be a one way street. This is the street in front of Globe High School and the Globe School District office.

Free Lunch for Veterans November 10 at Miami Senior Center
On Thursday, November 10, the Miami Senior Center Site Council will host a Veterans Day lunch. The meal will be free for veterans and their spouses. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be cooked outside in the new barbecue grill area.
Music will be provided by Jose Sanchez and the Diamonds beginning at 11:am.

Pre-Schoolers Sing at Miami Senior Center Today
Halloween Pre-Schoolers will be at the Miami Senior Center today (Monday) at 11:am to sing their school songs.
This is an annual event performed by the pre-schoolers from the Miami Bullion Plaza Head Start and Early Head Start school programs.
Lunch will be served at noon following the presentation.

Downtown Trick-Or-Treat Event Tonight
The Annual Downtown Trick-Or-Treat Event begins at 5:30 today (Monday). Downtown merchants will line the streets to meet and greet and to pass out treats. Last year the Historic District handed out candy to an estimated 8,000 children. They are expecting even more this year.
The Annual Costume Contest begins at 6:30. Winners will receive a free portriat sitting from FullCircle Photoworks following the contest.
Enter the free raffle and win a prize package from the Globe Historic Main Street Program.

Call Salvation Army for Christmas Assistance Appointment
The Salvation Army will begin setting appointments for Christmas assistance starting tomorrow (Tuesday). Call between 9:am and 4:pm tomorrow through Friday to make an appointment.

Globe Police were dispatched to a residence on Pioneer Hills Road early this morning for a report of trespassing and breaking and entering. 32 year old Rhea Tucker and 37 year old Heather Mastin were arrested for outstanding warrants from the Gila County Sheriff’s Office.
Saturday night Globe Police arrested 35 year old Zinnia Rodriguez for forgery in connection with an incident that occurred on October 15. Rodriguez was also arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and two outstanding warrants.
Officers are investigating criminal damage at Globe High School; a domestic dispute at a residence on High Street; a theft at a residence on Banker Avenue; and a harassment report taken at Judy’s Cookhouse.
Miami Police arrested 44 year old Eric Alderman on a failure to appear warrant for issuing a bad check.
Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old William Shurter for domestic violenece/assault and criminal damage.

The funeral for Glenna Logan will be Wednesday at 1:pm ar Central Heights Baptist Church.
Everett Randall of Peridot—known as Charlie Brown—passed away October 24 at Heritage Healthcare Center. He was 71. He is survived by his wife Gladys; 3 children; 3 brothers; and 10 grandchildren.
The wake for Everett Randall will be Saturday at 4:pm at the Randall residence. The funeral is Sunday at 1:30pm at San Carlos Miracle Church.
