Relay for Life Kick-Off on Thursday

The Relay for Life Kick-Off is on Thursday  at the Apache Gold Casino. It starts at 5:30pm in the Conference Center.

The Kick-Off is also this month’s Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce Mixer.

You’ll have the opportunity to register for the Copper Valley Relay for Life to be held on June 7^th and 8^th at Harbison Field.

Miami Jr. and Sr. High School Parent Symposium

The First Annual Miami Jr. and Sr. High School Parent Symposium  takes place on Thursday. It’s from 4 to 7:pm.

Parents will have the opportunity to meet with their child’s teachers and receive third quarter report cards.

The event also includes representatives from Gila Community College, CVIT Vocational Education, local social service agencies and more.

Gila County Announces Department Changes

Gila County Manager Don McDaniel announced the departure of three Department Directors at this week’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

Finance Director Joe Heatherly has accepted a position in the private sector.

Human Resources Director Berthan DeNero has accepted a position in Pinal County.

IT Director Darryl Griffin is going into private business.

Elections Director Linda Eastlick has been named the new Human Resources Director. McDaniel has contacted an agency to provide qualified interim staff for the other two vacancies.

In addition, Malissa Buzan has been named Community Services Director. She has been with the department for 20 years and has been Acting Director for four months.

Globe Police arrested 27 year old Fernlynda Kindelay and 30 year old Johnny Dawahoya for domestic violence assault after a disturbance at a business on Highway 60.

25 year old Korwin Smith was arrested last night for shoplifting at the Hill Street Safeway.

25 year old Angel Bead was arrested on a failure to pay warrant for driving with a suspended license and a probation violation warrant for fraudulent use of a credit card.

Miami Police arrested 57 year old Wayne Wampole on a warrant for disorderly conduct.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a theft from a vehicle on Hopi Drive.

Blood Drive Today at MHS

The American Red Cross is holding a Blood drive today (Wednesday) at Miami High School.

Donations will be accepted until 2:pm.

Moose Lodge Easter Party

The Globe Moose Lodge will host its annual Easter Party on Saturday (March 23) from 10:am to 2:pm.

Enjoy an Easter  egg hunt, games and a chance to take pictures with the Easter Bunny.

Open Meeting Law Class

The Gila County Attorney’s Office is presenting an Open Meeting Law class for  the public tonight (Tuesday) and tomorrow morning (Wednesday).

The two hour class will be held in the Supervisors’ Hearing Room at the Gila County Courthouse tonight from 7 to 9:pm and tomorrow from 9 to 11:am.

Miami Police arrested 49 year old Charles Fee on a Gila County warrant for utility service fraud.

37 year old Dwayne Preston was arrested on a Maricopa County warrant for child support and an Apache Junction failure to appear warrant for a traffic offense.

Globe Police referred a juvenile to the Juvenile Detention Center after a domestic disturbance yesterday afternoon.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary on Cherry Avenue; shoplifting at the Spring Creek Store; and criminal damage to a vehicle on McKinney Avenue.

Obituary

Barbara Ann McBride of Globe passed away March 14 at Copper Mountain Inn. She was 59. She is survived by her daughter Kim Sutton of Claypool; 3 sons; 3 brothers; 2 sisters; 4 grandchidlren and one great grandchild.

A Memorial Service for Barbara McBride will be held Monday (March 25) at 1:pm at Lamont Mortuary.

Globe PD to Discuss ID Theft at GAAC

The Globe Police Department is giving a talk about ID theft and scams on Tuesday at the Globe Active Adult Center. It starts at 11:am.

Free Showing of Mining Documentary

The documentary “So Dear to the Miners” will be shown at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum on Saturday, March 23 at 11:am.

This film was produced by Miami native Sam Munoz. Munoz is a retired educator now living in Tempe.

The documentary focuses on the stories of immigrant groups that came to our region from all over the world to find a new and better life. People of all backgrounds came together to create the mining district story.

Everyone is invited to attend this showing free of charge.

Police Log

Three different two-vehicle colisions  occurred on Highway 60 on Saturday. No injuries were reported.

On Friday morning there was a two vehicle non-injury collision in the area of Ash and Oak Streets.

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 50 year old Pamela Moore for assault and disorderly conduct after a disturbance at a business on Highway 60.

An Apache Junction man was arrested for shoplifting early Friday morning at a business on North Broad Street.

29 year old Nadine Belknap was arrested for assault Friday night after a disturbance on Jess Hayes Road.

21 year old Nathaniel Lister was arrested for DUI at a traffic stop Friday night. His passenger 20 year old Lakota Shirley of Winslow was arrested for underage consumption.

Two people were arrested  separately on Friday for shoplifting.  36 year old Dustin Pena and 36 year old Jeffrey Kramer were booked and released.

42 year old Edwardo Castillo was arrested Friday for fraudulent schemes.

Officers are investigating a theft in the area of Hagen Road; a theft on Hill Street; criminal damage in the area of East Street; a hit and run accident on Highway 60; and a hit and run on North Broad Street.

Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31 year old Beau Gerardo on failure to appear warrants for possession of dangerous drugs, child support and giving false information to law enforcement.

19 year old Aaron Gaona was cited and released fo driving with a suspnded license.

A juvenile ran from a deputy at a residence on McKinney. His father, 40 year old Brian Ingram was charged with hindering prosecution.

A juvenile was charged with threats and assault at the Gila County Juvenile Detention Center.

On Friday morning   Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a truck that was stuck on the  railroad tracks behind the AM/PM. The deputies helped remove the truck and then cited 25 year old Nicholas Foglietti for driving on railroad tracks.

Deputies are investigating criminal damage at Pinto Creek Mobile Home Park and a report of threats taken at a residence on Snedden Street.
