Police Log

There was a two vehicle accident late yesterday morning on Highway 60 near McDonalds. One driver was transported for medical treatment and one vehicle was towed from the scene.

Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 32 year old Wyatt Button for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of narcotics, felony flight, prohibited possessor, and a warrant for violation of a court order.

Globe Police arrested 33 year old Roy Reyes on warrants for failure to appear for possession of dangerous drugs and child support.

28 year old Beau Gerardo was arrested on a child support warrant.

Globe Police are investigating a burglary from a residence on South Verde Lane.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of an assault at Charles Bejarano School.

Heritage Health Care is holding a Fall Festival today (Friday) from 3 until 5:pm.

Goddard in Globe Today

Arizona Attorney General and Democratic candidate for governor Terry Goddard will be in Globe today (Friday) at the Copper Spike Train Depot. He will be there at 5:15 for a Meet and Greet. Goddard will also be at the Copper Rim Fall Festival in downtown Globe at 6:00 and at tonight’s Globe High School football game.

More Halloween Events

Rice Elementary School in San Carlos is holding its Halloween Carnival today (Friday) from 4 to 8:pm.There will be games, prizes, food, candy and even a ferris wheel.

The Globe VFW Halloween party and banquet will take place tomorrow (Saturday) at 6:pm. There will be a costume contest, live music and raffles throughout the evening.

Halloween Events This Weekend

Lots of Halloween events are taking place this weekend in Globe-Miami.

The annual events in downtown Globe begin Friday night next to the Center for the Arts building. There’ll be a pumpkin carving contest from 5 to 8, along with food and coffee vendors. Also a Chili, Cornbread and Fall Treats Cookoff.
The Copper Rim School Fall Festival will be part of the downtown Globe event Friday night. It starts at 4:pm and includes games, prizes, and food. Lots of baskets will be raffled off, with tickets 50 cents each. All proceeds from the Fall Festival will go to Copper Rim students, teachers and classrooms.

The Prison of Terror Spook House at the Old Historic Jail on Oak Street will be open every night through Sunday from 7 to 11:pm. Admission is $5.

The Ghosts of Globe Tours on Saturday night will start every 15 minutes between 7:30 and 8:30 at the Old Historic Jail.

The Halloween weekend in downtown Globe concludes on Sunday night with trick or treat booths set up by local merchants. This is from 5:30 until 7:pm.

Copper Mountain Inn invites trick or treaters to their Friday Fright Night from 6 to 8:pm. It includes spooky hayrides, a haunted house, games, trick or treating with the residents, a scary movie on the wall, and hot dogs.

The Globe Moose Lodge will have a Halloween Party Friday night from 5 to 9:pm.

The 8th annual Trunk-O-Treats at St. Paul’s Church will be set up in the parking lot Sunday from 5:30 until 7:pm. This is a safe, fun place for trick or treaters. Church members and neighbors will distribute treats from their car trunks.

The Miami Fire Department presents “Halloween in the Park" Sunday night at Bullion Plaza from 6 to 10:pm.

Icehouse Trail: 'The Most Botanically Varied Hike in Arizona'?

The Arizona Republic published an article on Wednesday about hiking the Icehouse Trail near Globe. The article calls it possibly "the most botanically varied hike in Arizona."

Post Secondary Education Fair Scheduled For Tuesday

The Second Annual Southern Gila County Post Secondary Education Fair will take place on Tuesday (November 2) from 9:am until 2:pm. It will be open to the public starting at 12:30.

The Fair is hosted by Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold and sponsored by Gila County School Superintendent Linda O’Dell, the Southern Gila County College Preparatory Academy and Signal Peak Community Foundation. Forty post secondary agencies and community organizations will be there.

Miami Council Special Meeting Friday Morning

Miami Town Council will hold a Special Meeting tomorrow (Friday) at 8:30am. They will go into Executive Session to possibly appoint a Town Manager.

Help Clean the Lions' Mile

The Globe Lions invite everyone to help clean the Lions' Mile this Saturday. The Mile begins at the corner of highways 60 and 77 and continues to the drive-in theater.

Everyone will meet at the LDS Church parking lot at 8:am Saturday. Volunteers will be given a quick briefing, a trash bag, and then put on an ADOT safety vest. Bring your own gloves. If you have a paper-stabber or picker-upper, bring that too.

ABC 15 Visits Fire Training Facility Near Globe-Miami

Yesterday ABC 15 in Phoenix broadcast a report on the new state of the art fire training center that opened recently near Globe-Miami. The TV station video recorded a training exercise and talked to Tri City Fire Chief Marco Olsen and firefighter Greg Zupancic.

Thanksgiving Amnesty at Globe Library

Starting Tuesday (November 2), the Globe Public Library will have a Thanksgiving amnesty on overdue fines. Fines will be forgiven for one non-perishable food item for each dollar owed. The food will go to the local Food Bank. This is a good time to return overdue books or clear up old fines.

Police Log

Globe Police and Gila County Sheriff’s deputies contacted two juveniles at a residence on First Avenue last night. The juveniles were referred to probation for possession and use of marijuana.

Globe Police arrested 33 year old Daryl Amonette for driving with a suspended license.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested Heather Arrellin on a bad check warrant and a warrant for driving with a suspended license.

69 year old Janice Quinton was cited and released for disorderly conduct.

Deputies are investigating a report of criminal damage from Globe Canyon Church; a theft on Railroad Avenue; and a vehicle theft on Railroad Avenue.

AZ Game & Fish Recives Grant to Improve Outdoor Access

The Arizona Game and Fish Department has been awarded a $600,000 grant from the US Department of Agriculture. The purpose of the grant is to improve outdoor recreational access to public lands.

The Department says it will use the money to help ensure that private land owners allow recreational access to their private land holdings or allow the public access through their private landholdings to otherwise inaccessible public lands.

The Voluntary Public Access and Habitat Incentive Program provides incentives to landowners to give access to hunters, fishermen, hikers, campers, bird watchers and other outdoor enthusiasts.
