Globe Council Meets Monday
Globe City Council meets Monday at 6:pm. They’ll consider approving an Intergovernmental Agreement with the Tri City Fire District concerning the regional fire training center.
There will be a presentation about the new library design. Also the introduction to new dispatcher Judy Gregorich and Animal Control Officer Nick Campagna.

Longtime Globe-Miami Radio Personality Gene Pearsall Dies
KIKO is sad to learn that longtime local radio personality and station operator Gene Pearsall has passed away.
Gene was the owner and operator of KJAA for many years and more recently a host on KRDE. Gene also worked for KIKO.
Gene left this area for awhile and I had the opportunity to work with him at KCKY in Coolidge when it was a popular country station. This was around 1979-80. Gene was the morning DJ and I was the midday host. I remember him as being fun to work with and very professional. He got on my case a couple of times for coming in at the last minute. That's OK, I deserved it.
I almost went to work for Gene at KJ in 1995 but I ended up at KRXS briefly and then KIKO.
Funeral arrangements for Gene Pearsall are pending.

Elks Hoop Shoot is Saturday
The Pinal Mountain Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot will be held tomorrow (Saturday) from 9 until noon in the Lee Kornegay gym.
E-Waste Event Coming to Kearny
The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has scheduled a free electronics waste recycling event in Kearny tomorrow (Saturday. It will be in the Ray School District parking lot from 8:am until 1:pm.
The event is co-sponsored with the towns of Kearny and Hayden, ASARCO and the Ray School District. They expect to collect tons of unwanted televisions, computer equipment, monitors, batteries, chargers, cell phones, VCR’s, CD and DVD players, printers, small appliances, fax machines, stereos, cables and cords during the event.
ADEQ has sponsored 24 events since August 2009 and collected more than 500,000 pounds from nearly 3,800 vehicles attending the e-waste events.
AZ Gas Prices Remain Stable
Gasoline prices are slowly rising across the country but are remaining stable in Arizona. The latest statewide average for a gallon of unleaded regular is a little less than $2.76 a gallon. The nationwide average is about $2.865, an increase of nearly six cents. Here in Globe-Miami, prices are around $2.73 a gallon.

Miami Police arrested 28 year old Broderick Secody yesterday for disorderly conduct/domestic violence.
Globe Police and EMS were dispatched to the Seventh Street Circle K late last night after a call about a man having chest pains. 46 year old Robert Holy was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center. A records check showed that Holy had an outstanding warrant. He was arrested and booked after he left the hospital.
Globe Police are investigating a report of credit card theft and an ongoing criminal damage problem at an address on Hunter Drive.

Sandra Kay Bray passed away Saturday in Bullhwead City. She was 62. She is survived by 2 children; 6 step children; her brother; 2 sisters; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The funeral for Sandra Kay Bray will be Saturday, November 20 at LaMont Mortuary.
Edwin Wallace Powell passed away Tuesday at his home in Globe. He was 64. He is survived by his wife Judith and his sister Izora Van Der Voort.
A Memorial Service for Edwin Powell will be announced later.
The family suggests that memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.

Local Transit Faces Funding
Cuts
Local transportation services—like just about everything else that actually helps people—are facing possible funding cuts. You can help by telling the Arizona Transit Association about your experiences using public transportation services such as Cobre Valley Community Transit.
Go to the “Tell Your Transit Story” survey at www.AzTA.org. They will put some of the stories on the website to help elected officials and the public understand the critical role that transit plays in the lives of Arizonans.
Portion of SR 88 Will Close for Repairs
The Arizona Department of Transportation will close a four-mile segment of State Route 88—the Apache Trail—for two months beginning Monday (November 15). The closure is near Fish Creek Hill. It will provide a safe work zone for repairs to retaining walls and sections of the roadway.
Roosevelt Lake and Apache Lake are accessible by State Route 188. Canyon Lake and recreation facilities are still accessible by State Route 88 and so is Lost Dutchman State Park.

Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign
The local Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign begins on November 20 and continues until Christmas Eve. The hours are 10:am until 6:pm. The program helps the Salvation Army provide Christmas food and toys to families in the Globe-Miami-Claypool and San Carlos area.
Salvation Army Christmas kettles will be at both Safeways, Walmart, Fry’s and Basha’s.
As of today (November 11), 130 families have applied for assistance, with more to come. If you’d like to Adopt-a-Family through the Salvation Army, call 425-4011.
Miami Garbage Pickup Holiday Changes
Miami has made some holiday changes to its garbage pickup schedule. The pickup scheduled for today (Thursday) has been moved to tomorrow.

There were a couple of injury accidents yesterday afternoon in Globe. The first occurred on Highway 60 at Hilltop. One driver was cited for failure to control her vehicle to avoid an accident. One patient was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center.
A pedestrian was struck by a car at East and Ash Streets. The driver was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian. The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
