Miami Arts Commission Meets February 15
The Miami Arts Commission will meet Wednesday, February 15 at 6:pm at Copper Mine Picture Café.

'Dump the Drugs' Event
The Copper Basin Coalition is sponsoring a “Dump the Drugs” event tomorrow (Saturday) in the Fry’s parking lot.
Drop off your unwanted, unused or expired medications from 8:am until Noon.
The event is sponsored in partnership with Fry’s and the Globe Police department.

Reed Found Guilty in Domestic Incident
Yesterday (Thursday) a Gila County jury found 32 year old Wesley Reed guilty of aggravated assault, criminal trespass, threats and intimidation and criminal damage.
Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores presented the case to the jury.
On October 16, 2010 the former Young resident threatened his grandmother with a knife. He also threatened to kill his mother and grandmother separately from his use of the knife. Reed’s grandmother ordered him out of the houise. He left but came back later and banged and kicked at the front door. He then entered the home through a window.
Reed has 5 prior felony convictions and this offense was committed while he was on parole from his most recent conviction.
Gila County Attorney Daisy Flores says it is fortunate that no one was hurt, but a situation like this can easily escalate to where law enforcement is responding to a homicide or a victim with serious injuries. She says no one deserves to be subjected to this behavior. Anyone who is a victim of domestic violence should call local law enforcement immediately.
Because of his extensive criminal history, Reed is facing a minimum of 7.5 years, and a maximum of almost 19 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections.

Gila County Sheriff John Armer has announced that he will retire at the end of his term.
Sheriff Armer has been in law enforcement for 43 years, as Deputy Sheriff in Maricopa County, Globe Police Chief and Gila County Sheriff.
Armer says he appreciates the trust that Gila County voters have placed in him. He thanks his command staff for their support. He says the employees of the Sheriff’s Office are among the best he has ever worked with, and the fact that the office has never been the subject of lawsuits or public criticism is the result of their professionalism.
Sheriff Armer says he plans to remain an active resident of Gila County.

Obituary
Mary Ann Stevens of Peridot passed away January 30 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix. She was 67. She is survived by her husband “Jay”; 7 children; 14 brothers and sisters; 30 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The wake for Mary Stevens will be tomorrow (Saturday) at 4:pm at the Stevens residence. The funeral is Sunday at 1:pm at San Carlos Miracle Church.

First Friday Program About 'Prehistoric Arizona'
Eddie Colyott returns to the First Friday historic lecture series tomorrow night at the Miami Memorial Library. His presentation on “Prehistoric Arizona” begins at 6:30.

Scouts to Collect Food for Local Food Banks
Local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will be collecting food for the local food banks this Saturday in the Annual Scouting for Food Drive.
Scouts will be outside grocery stores and also going door to door for canned and other non-perishable food items.
The goal of the annual food drive is to replenish the shelves of local food banks after the holidays when many might not otherwise remember those in need.

Registration Continues for Pinal Mountain Little League
Registration continues this weekend for Pinal Mountain Little League Coach Pitch and T-Ball. The hours are 9:am until Noon Saturday and Sunday at the Claypool Safeway.

Free Friday Movies in Globe
The Globe Public Library is showing free movies every Friday afternoon in February. This Friday’s movie is “Cars 2.”
Next Friday, February 10, they’ll be showing “Dolphin Tale”; “Lady and the Tramp” on February 17; and “Puss in Boots” on February 24.
Globe Active Adult Center is showing the movie “Courageous” tomorrow (Friday) at 12:30. They provide popcorn and soda, too.

Globe Tool Lending Library Needs Volunteers
The Globe Tool Lending Library is looking for volunteers to maintain the files of patrons as they “check in” and “check out” tools. Volunteers are needed Monday through Thursday from 8:am until Noon and Friday from 8 until 2.

Candidate Forum Tonight
The Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce is hosting a candidate forum of Globe and Miami Council candidates tonight (Thursday) at 6:30. The forum will be in the Supervisors’ Hearing Room at the Gila County Courthouse.
Candidates will give a short opening statement followed by questions from the audience. You will be invited to submit questions in writing. Facilitator Jay Spehar will ask the candidates your questions.

Miami Genesis Board Meets Tonight
The Miami Genesis Board meets tonight (Thursday) at 6:00 at Miami Town Hall. They’ll discuss several ongoing projects, including the upcoming Building Tour, and plan a fundraiser booth for the Boomtown Spree in April.
