Last night Globe Police arrested 35 year old Wendy Stanfel for trespassing at the Drift Inn.
18 year old inmate Derrick Rust was booked for burglary and possession of stolen property.
Officers are investigating a report of shoplifting at Walmart and a theft at a residence on South Broad Street

A Gila County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested 23 year old inmate Kyle Hamlet on a failure to comply warrant for driving with a suspended license.
Deputies are investigating a stolen vehicle from a residence on Wilson Street; a theft of an ATV at a residence on Pinal Canyon Road; and a hit and run at the Gila Pueblo Campus.

Obituary
Carlos Anaya of Claypool passed away Tuesday at Hospice of Arizona in Mesa. He was 66. He is survived by his sister; and 3 brothers, including Albert of Claypool.
Rosary for Carlos Anaya will be Tuesday at 10:am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Superior. Funeral Mass is at 11:00.

Appliance Fee-Free Day Saturday at Landfill
The Russell Gulch Landfill is having an old appliance “free day” tomorrow (Saturday) from 8:am until 3:pm.
This will include refrigerators, freezers, washers, dish washers, dryers, portable trash compactors and water heaters. Other metal items will also be accepted.
The landfill fee for the weight of all appliances and the freon from the refrigerators and freezers will be waived on Saturday. The County will remove the freon from the appliances.

State Historian Jim Turner in Globe-Miami This Weekend
Arizona’s State Historian Jim Turner will be the guest speaker at the First Friday program tomorrow at 6:30pm at the Bullion Plaza. His presentation about Arizona statehood is free and light refrreshments will be served after the program.
Turner will also be at the Gila County Historical Museum on Saturday from 11 until 3. This is a book signing for his Centennial Book, “Arizona—A Celebration of the Grand Canyon State."

Read Across America Book Giveaway This Saturday
The Read Across America Book Giveaway will be held this Saturday (March 3) from 10 until 2 at the Claypool Safeway.
Gila County Reading Council will again be celebrating reading and Dr. Seuss’s birthday by giving a free book to each child who attends the event. This year over 300 books will be available for children through 6th grade.

Territorial Brass Performs Saturday
The Globe-Miami Community Concert Association presents the Territorial Brass this Saturday night (March 3) in the Miami High School auditorium. It starts at 7:pm.
The twelve member ensemble specializes in 19th century American brass band music, playing authentic arrangements from 1835, through the Civil war, to Arizona’s year of statehood. The music program includes slides of vintage photographs of Arizona bands and daily life in the territory, and a “follow the bouncing ball” sing-along.
This concert is free with the purchase of membership for next season. For information call 425-9236.

Globe Active Adult Activities on Friday
The Globe Active Adult Center is providing legal assistance again every Friday morning beginning at 10:am.

Globe Voting Deadline is March 13
If you are a registered voter in the City of Globe and have not received your mail-in election ballot, you can pick one up at Globe City Hall. If you have any questions about your ballot, contact Globe City Clerk Gina Paul at 425-7146 ext. 21.
The deadline to vote is 7:pm on Tuesday, March 13. All ballots must be turned in by that time at Globe City Hall, the Globe Public Library or the Gila County Recorder’s Office.

Richard Gonzales of Globe passed away Tuesday at Gateway Ranch in Gilbert. He was 88. He is survived by his wife Vera; 2 daughters; 2 sons; his sister; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Visitation for Richard Gonzales will be Tuesday (March 6) at Noon at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Rosary is at 12:30 and Mass is at 1:pm.

Forset Service to Drop Most Fees
The US Forest Service has decided to return free access to most national forest lands. The Los Angeles Times reports that the Forest Service plans to eliminate the fees for three fourths of the forest areas where they are now imposed.
The fees have been controversial ever since they were adopted in a demonstration program in 1996. Liberals said they kept poor families from public lands and Conservatives said the charges amounted to double taxation.
A recent Federal Appeals Court decision may force the Forest Service to cut the fee program even more. The judges ruled that parking fees in Arizona’s Coronado National Forest were improper. They sent the case back to a lower court for further consideration.
The Forest Service does plan to continue charging for the use of certain busy sites that are equipped with amenities such as toilets, trash cans and picnic tables.

Copper Company Wants to Expand Miners' Shifts to 12 Hours
Resolution Copper Company is urging Arizona lawmakers to allow miners who work underground to be scheduled for shifts up to 12 hours. Current state law limits underground miners to eight hour shifts.
A representative of Resolution Copper told the House Employment and Regulatory Affairs Committee that operations in other states that increased the limits to 12 hours have seen decreases in time lost to injuries. Adam Hawkins also said that workers have found that they prefer this because it means less time commuting and more time at home.
The bill would also remove language from state law declaring that employment in underground mining is “injurious to health and dangerous to life and limb.”
Cronkite News Service reports that the bill has already been approved by the Arizona Senate. It now goes to the House floor.
