Globe City Council meets Monday at 6:pm. Globe Police Chief Lee Kinnard will introduce new officer Kalene Carl and Elks Club Officer of the Year Mike Boyd. Globe Fire Chief Al Gameros will introduce firefighter Mike Peterson.
The Council will also meet Water and Wastewater Facilities Supervisor Matt Rencher and hear a presentation about the Farmers Market.
Other presentations include requests to proclaim April 9-13 National Library Week in the City of Globe and April 15-23 National Volunteer Week in the City of Globe.
The agenda includes a Public Hearing about the use of Community Development Block Grant funds.
The Council will consider a Resolution adopting a Fair Housing Policy and making known Globe’s commitment to the principle of fair housing.

Miami Council Meets Monday
Miami Town Council meets Monday at 6:30pm. The Council will consider an Intergovernmental Agreement with Gila County to purchase the Cobre Valley Community Transit building and property on Sullivan Street.
They will also consider a recommendation from the Genesis Board to spend about $700 from the Genesis Special Event Fund for flowers for up to 10 light poles.
The Council may possibly approve a new project to establish Community Gardens and Natural Vegetation to help beautify Miami.
They may also approve the use of the trolley or transit van to run during the Boomtown Spree.
The Council will go into Executive Session to discuss pending litigation with the Tri City Fire District.

Home Rule Forum in Miami on April 16
The Miami Town Council passed a Resolution in December that places the Home Rule issue on the May 15 General Election ballot.
A forum about “How Home Rule Affects You and Your Town” will be held on Monday, April 16 at 6:pm at Bullion Plaza.

Arizonans Spent 9 Percent of their Income on Fuel in March
Fuel prices appear to be reaching a plateau, but motorists across the country are still facing pump prices near $4. AAA Arizona says the Arizona statewide average dropped nearly a penny this week to $3.89 a gallon. The national average increased 1.5 cents to nearly $3.94 gallon. Here in Globe-Miami, gas prices are around $3.90.
The Oil Price Information Service says the percentage of income that the average Arizona household spends on gasoline jumped to 9% in March. This is the fifth most expensive month since they began tracking the data in 2000. The last time fuel spending totaled 9% in Arizona was in May of 2008, the same year Arizona hit an all time fuel price high.

There was a fire yesterday afternoon on Gordon Street. The fire was contained to the yard.
Globe Police arrested 47 year old Robert Holy yesterday morning for criminal trespass at the Globe Safeway. He was booked and released on his own recognizance. Holy was arrested again a few hours later for an outstanding warrant and booked into the Gila County Jail.
40 year old Mary Cheever of Mesa was arrested Wednesday morning for criminal damage after causing a disturbance at the carnival next to Fry’s. Cheever was arrested again Wednesday night, this time for disorderly conduct at a business on Highway 60.
26 year old Randall Monroe of Tempe was arrested for DUI Wednesday night after an officer was dispatched to a disabled vehicle at a business on East Ash.
Two people were arrested during a traffic stop late Wednesday night. 27 year old Joseph Martinez was charged with consuming alcohol inside a motor vehicle. 33 year old Letha Williams was charged with aggravated DUI.
Officers are investigating an assault at a business on Highway 60; an attempted burglary at a business on Maple Street; illegal dumping at Hospital Drive and Russell Road; and a theft at a residence on North Bancroft.
Yesterday the Gila County Sheriff’s office arrested 21 year old Dixie Williams on a probation violation warrant for attempted trafficking in stolen property.
24 year old Mariah Taraba was arrested on a contempt of court warrant for aggravated assault.

Globe Easter Parade
The Fourth Annual Easter Parade in Globe begins Saturday at 9:30am at the historic train depot.
Contestants will walk the sidewlks of Broad Street and back to the Center for the Arts where winners will be announced around 11:30. Local businesses will help judge the best entries in four categories.
The first free showing of the 1948 claassic film “Easter Parade” begins at noon in the historic courtroom theater. There will be another showing at 3:pm.

Easter Sunrise Service
The community is invited to the Easter Sunrise Service at Dream Manor Inn on Sunday morning at 6:30.
An offering will be taken for the needy in our community. Breakfast will follow the service, hosted by Carl and Rebecca Williams of Dream Manor Inn.

Free Weather Training Workshop This Saturday
A free training will be held in Globe this Saturday (April 7) to teach people how to identify and report significant weather phenomena.
You will learn how thunderstorms work, how to identify cloud features associated with microbursts and tornadoes, visually estimate wind speeds, and how your reports tie in to warnings and advisories issued by the National Weather Service.
The workshop is Saturday from 10:am until Noon at Gila County Emergency Services on Apache Avenue.

First Friday Presents 'Mexican Americans in Early Miami'
Research specialist Christine Marin will talk about “Mexican Americans in Early Miami” during the First Friday program tomorrow at Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum. The free program starts at 6:30pm.

Low Cost Rabies Clinic
The next Low Cost Rabies Clinic will be next Saturday, April 14 from 1:30 to 3:pm at the Animal Shelter.
The cost of a rabies shot is $10 plus the cost of a license. That’s $15 for an unaltered animal and $7 for a spayed or neutered animal.

Heritage Health Care Center is having a community Easter Egg Hunt tomorrow (Friday) from 3 to 6:pm.
They have thousands of eggs and several prizes to give away, plus a pinata.

They’ll discuss the next Pride of Miami home to be recognized.
The Board will discuss and set the date for cleanup month, Riverwalk on May 12. They will also discuss ideas to promote this day and possibly request funding from the special Genesis account.
They will discuss a tentative date for the next Building Tour and possibly volunteer to help the Sports Museum Committee paint the Library.

Gila County Least Healthy in Arizona
A national heath report released this week ranks Gila County last in Arizona for certain health indicators. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation studied more than 3,000 US counties and ranked them from healthiest to least healthy in each state.
Cronkite News Service reports that the entire state falls well short of national averages on a range of health indicators, from the prevalence of fast food restaurants to the availability of primary care physicians and the teen birth rate.
Gila County’s poor showing for health outcomes is based on its premature death rates, percentage of low-birthweight babies, and reported days of poor physical and mental health. Gila County’s premature death rates are about 50% higher than the state as a whole.
The county’s poor health outcomes come in spite of the fact that it ranked in the middle for health factors such as tobacco use, diet and exercise, and access to care.
