Malware May Cause Thousands to Lose Internet Service on Monday

Tens of thousands of Americans may lose their Internet service on Monday unless they check their computers for malware that could have taken over their computers more than a year ago.

The FBI says that the number of computers that are probably affected is more than 277,000 worldwide, about 64,000 in the US.

When the FBI took down some international hackers last year, they brought in a private company to take over for the malicious servers so that the victims would not suddenly lose their Internet service.

However, that temporary Internet system will shut down at 12:01am EDT on Monday.

San Carlos Woman Pleads Guilty to Embezzling Tribal Funds

A San Carlos woman has pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $270,000 from the San Carlos Apache Tribe.

Authorities say 34 year old Holley Youvella admitted that she embezzled the money while she was a bookkeeper for the Peridot Shopping Center, owned by the tribe.

She also cashed more than 200 fraudulent checks from the shopping center’s account and directed fraudulent electronic payments to personal credit and utility accounts.

Youvella will be sentenced on October 15.

Globe Fire Department put out a brush fire yesterday afternoon near a business on North Broad Street.

Globe Police arrested 30 year old Mariette Lewis late last night at a residence on Euclid Avenue. Lewis was charged with domestic violence assault, criminal damage and preventing the use of a telephone during an emergency.

Two people were arrested last night at a traffic stop. 34 year old Gabriel Cabrera was charged with DUI. 25 year old Amber Lucero was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

46 year old Margilene Franklin was arrested yesterday for aggravated DUI.

Officers are investigating a theft report taken at a business on Highway 60.

Gila County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a report of telephone harassment taken at a residence on Beer Tree and a burglary at a residence on Montecito.

Obituary

Jeannette C. Boyd passed away June 29. She was 80.

Visitation for Jeannette Boyd will be Tuesday at 9:am at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Rosary is at 9:30 and Mass is at 10:00.

Early yesterday morning Globe Police responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence on Manzanita Drive. The victim was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center. 26 year old Saralynn Little was arrested for aggravated assault/domestic violence.

21 year old Vincent Duwyenie was arrested last night after a domestic disturbance at a business on Highway 60.

28 year old Gina Bead was arrested Tuesday morning for shoplifting at the Hill Street Safeway.

21 year old Renee Bookout was arrested on a failure to comply warrant for threats and intimidation.

Officers are investigating criminal damage at a residence on 4^th Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25 year old Randolph Pena for domestic violence and disorderly conduct.

Deputies are investigating a report of child molestation that occurred at  a residence on Fairgrounds Road and a theft at the Claypool Circle K.

Obituary

Mary Mendez Salas of Globe passed away July 2 at Heritage Healthcare Center. She was 89. She is survived by 3 sisters and 3 brothers.

Freeport Morenci Natural Resource Injury Settlement

The US District Court for Arizona has approved a $6.8 million settlement involving the State of Arizona, the US Department of the Interior and Freeport McMoRan Corporation for natural resource damages resulting from the release of hazardous substances from the Freeport Morenci mine.

The settlement money will be used for for the restoration of Arizona wildlife populations and their habitat.

Police Log

A woman walked into the Miami Police station yesterday with blood flowing down the side of her head. She reported that she had been attacked by a relative. Tri City paramedics were called for medical assistance.  Officers located  49 year old Rubina Romero and charged her with assault.

Globe Police were dispatched to a residence on North Escudilla Drive after a call about a woman yelling for help. The woman was taken to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center.

Officers and a K-9 unit responded to an attempted arson in the area of South 4^th Street. The case is under investigation.

Globe Police arrested 51 year old Timothy McCullough of Mesa yesterday morning at a residence on Escalera Drive. McCullough was charged with aggravated asasult, possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia.

25 year old Nikita Thompson was arrested at a residence on North Broad Street for felony criminal damage/domestic violence.

42 year old Kyle Cook was arrested for threats and intimidation at a business on North Broad Street.

Two people were arrested at a residence on South Fourth Street. 49 year old Debra Irvine was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. 20 year old Christina Green was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers are investigating a report of elder abuse taken at a residence on East Blazer Drive; a stolen vehicle reported at a business on East Ash; and a report of threats taken at the Gila County Courthouse.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28 year old Mark Lopez on a child support warrant.

Deputies are investigating a report of theft of copper from a residence on Jess Hayes Road.

Fatal Accident Monday Night on Cherry Flats Road.

A driver was killed in an accident last night (Monday) on Cherry Flats Road. The driver’s name is being witheld pending notification of family.
