Coats and Blankets for the Needy

Southeastern Arizona Behavioral Health Services is collecting new and gently used coats and blankets for those in need.

You can drop off coats at their office on North Broad Street near the Circle K and Car Wash.

Miami School Board Meets Monday at 6:30

The Miami School Board meets Monday at 6:30pm in the Miami High School Library.

Centennial Band Christmas Concert on Sunday

The Globe-Miami Centennial Band will perform a Christmas Concert on Sunday at 3:pm in the Miami High School Auditorium.

Admission is free with a canned food donation or $3 for adults.

Miami Library Book Sale

The Friends of the Miami Library’s month long Holiday Book Sale begins tomorrow (Saturday) from 9:am to 1:pm.

The event will again include “a bag of books for a buck” plus a selection of like new hard cover books for $1 each and paperbacks for 50 cents each.

Globe Library Craft Sale

The Globe Public Library is having a craft sale on Saturday from 4:pm until the end of the Globe Light Parade.

They will have a drawing for the ticket raffles at the end of the parade. Raffle tickets will continue to be available at the front desk until the end of the Light Parade.

San Carlos Energy Summit

The San Carlos Apache Tribal Energy Summit will be held Monday and Tuesday at the Apache Gold Casino. The event is sponsored by the tribe and the US Department of Energy.

Christmas Light Parades in Bylas and San Carlos

There will be a Christmas Light Parade in Bylas on Wednesday (December 12) and in San Carlos on Thursday. The parades are from 6 to 8:pm.

Cash prizes will be awarded for the top five entries in each parade with a $500 prize for the best entry that takes part in both parades.

Police Log

A car swerved off the highway and into a tree yesterday morning on East Highway 60. The driver was cited for failure to control his vehicle to avoid a collision, no financial responsibility and registration not in the vehicle.

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 43 year old Terence Gutierrez for disorderly conduct after a disturbance at Walmart.

Officers are investigating a possible drug violation at a residence on Saguaro Drive; shoplifting at a business on Highway 70; criminal damage to a vehicle on North Hill Street; and a burglary at a residence on East Bailey.

Elks Hoop Shoot

The Elks National Hoop Shoot will be held  Sunday (December 9) at High Desert Middle School.

The Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest for boys and girls 8 to 13 years of age.

Registration is at 8:30am Sunday and the contest runs from 9:30 until noon.

December First Friday Program to be Open House

The First Friday program on December 7 will be a joint Open House for the Gila County Historical Museum in Globe and the Bullion Plaza Museum in Miami.

It's from 4 to 7:pm at the museum in Globe.

Light Parade Saturday in Downtown Globe

The Historic Globe Main Street Christmas Light Parade begins Saturday, December 8 (correct) at 6:pm in downtown Globe.

Fresh Produce Available Saturday at Holy Angels Parish Hall

Fresh produce will be available in the Holy Angels Parish Hall parking lot this Saturday (December 8) beginning at 9:am.

They are asking for a donation for the St. Vincent Society, but if you can’t afford to make one that’s okay.

The Holy Angels Parish Hall is on E. Sycamore Street behind Leonard Paul’s Pizza.

Native American Youth Champions for Change Program

The Center for Native American Youth is taking applications for the Champions for Change program. The program recognizes Native youth between 14 and 24 who are making a positive impact in their tribal or urban Indian communities.
