Summer Splash at Community Center Pool

The Globe Community Center is hosting a Summer Glow Splash at the pool today (Friday) from 7 to 10:pm. It’s for ages 13 to 17.

There will be games, open swimming and food.

Admission is $2. You will need to bring your school ID, but it doesn’t have to be from Globe or Miami.




Summer Youth Musical Theater Performances in July

The Summer Youth Musical Theater Program presents “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” on July 12, 13 and 19.

Miami Swimming Classes

Miami’s Hostetler Pool is offering swimming lessons during July.

Classes for children 3 to 5 years old are from 5:30 to 6:pm Monday through Thursday, from July 8 to July 18.

Classes for children 6 to 12 are from 6:15 to 6:45pm Monday through Saturday.

The cost is $25. Sign up at the pool or at Miami Town Hall.

Holiday Trash Collection Schedule

Right Away Disposal will not provide collection service on Independence Day, July 4 in the City of Globe.

If your service falls on that day, then you will receive service on the following day. Friday service will also be pushed back one day to Saturday.


Meet Journey of Hope Bicycle Riders at Hamburger Fry

The Gila County Historical Museum is having their monthly hamburger fry today (Friday) beginning at 5:30pm.

After the dinner you can meet 35 bicycle riders who will be cycling through Globe as part of the PUSH America program, Journey of Hope, serving people with disabilities.

These  young men spend their summer break traveling from the West to the East Coast, stopping each evening at communities along the way


Obituary

Felicitas Sifuentes passed away Tuesday at her home in Miami. She was 92. She is survived by her children Stella Guevara, Eva Fresquez and Richard Sifuentes; her sister; 9 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

The funeral for “Felice” Sifuentes is tomorrow (Saturday) at 10:am at Miles Funeral Services Miami.

Globe SummerFest

The Globe SummerFest will be held tomorrow (Saturday) from 5 to 8:30pm. It will be on Oak Street in downtown Globe.

The carnival-style event features music, games, cupcake walks, burgers, root bear floats and iced treats, water balloons and more fun to coll you off. This year there will also be a Cardboard Car Show and a family movie.

Other activities include a Watermelon Carving Challenge and a Downtown Sidewalk Chalk Challenge.

MHS Football Club Car Wash

The Miami High School football club is having a car wash today (Friday) from 10:am until 2:pm at Fry’s.


Police Log

Last night Globe Police arrested 20 year old Thomas Dorame for domestic violence/assault after a disturbance on Ruiz Canyon.

22 year old Justin Grinder was arrested yesterday morning for shoplifting.

Officers are investigating a delayed burglary report taken at a residence on Fifth Street; a theft at a business on Highway 60; and shoplifting at a business on North Broad Street.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office served 24 year old inmate Michael Travis with a child support warrant.

Deputies are  investigating an assault between inmates at the Gila County Jail; criminal damage to county property on Apache Avenue; and a report of unauthorized transactions on a bank card taken at a residence on Golden Hill.

Vaccines Needed to Register for School

The Gila County Health Department announces that the State of Arizona is no longer providing vaccines for underinsured children. If you have children in this category, please contact your family doctor to get the shots necessary to register for school.

The Gila County Health Department can provide some of the shots your child may need but they are in short supply.

Bring your child’s immunization record and your insurance card when you visit their office. It is located on Apache Avenue in Central Heights.

Lt. Moya Named Interim Police Chief

The City of Globe announces that Lt. Rosann Moya has been named Interim Police Chief effective July 1 until the Globe Police Chief position is filled.

Chief Lee Kinnard is retiring from the Globe Police Department and is accepting a position as Transportation Director with the Globe School District.


Annual Fireworks Display

Freeport McMoRan announces that the annual fireworks display will take place on Thursday, July 4 at 9:pm. 

The display will be atop the historic tailings off Highway 60, across from Walmart.


Chip Sealing in Globe

The City of Globe announces that chip sealing is taking place today (Thursday), Friday and Saturday on:

Escudilla Drive
Skyview Drive
Amarilla Avenue
Hackney Ave. from Highway 60 to Gleason Street
East Maple from S. Hill Street to S. Sixth Street
S. Sixth Street from E. Maple to the school property line
S. East Street from Highway 60 to E. Maple Street
Linda Vista Drive from Hunter to Roja Drive
Blazer Dr. from Crestwood to Prospect Dr.
Agave Dr. from Skyline to Sanders Dr.

Work hours are 7:am to 5:pm. Some of these streets may be temporarily closed during this process.

The City asks that you do not wash your car or water your lawn on the day before and the day the work is scheduled.

You are also asked to continue to park off the street for two days after the work so that they can sweep excess material.

Miami Fiesta Sub Committee Meets Today at 6:PM

The Town of Miami Fiesta Sub Committee meets today (Thursday) at 6:00 in the Miami Town Council Chambers.

They will discuss and possibly act to hand over the management of the Miami Fiesta to the Miami Genesis Board, as directed by the Miami Town Council

The Miami Fiesta will be held on September 14.
