Nobody was hurt in a two vehicle collision yesterday morning on Highway 60. There was another two vehicle collision yesterday afternoon on Sixth Street.

Globe Police took reports of an attempted robbery on Glendale Avenue; disorderly conduct at a business on East Ash Street; a theft at a business on Highway 60; and criminal damage at a residence on Kline Street.

Latex Paint Recycle Day at Landfill

The Russell Gulch Landfill will have a Latex Paint Recycle Day on Saturday (October 26).

The latex paint will be accepted from 8:am to 1:pm.

Tonto Basin School Halloween Carnival

Tonto Basin School will have a Halloween Carnival on Saturday from 4 to 8:pm. The money raised will go toward purchasing playground equipment.

Along with the food and games there will be a smash car, bounce house and a haunted house.

They will also be collecting cans of food or a $1 donation for the local food bank.

The school is located on Highway 188 in Tonto Basin.

Globe Moose Lodge Halloween Party

The Globe Moose Lodge will hold a Halloween costume party on Saturday from 4 to 8:pm.

Activities include a ring toss, fishing pond, bean bag toss, cupcake walk, pinata, face painting, storytelling, a costume contest and a trunk decorating contest.

Play About 'The Mighty Vandals' to be Performed in Miami

A  play about the 1951 Miami Vandals basketball team will be performed in Miami this Saturday and Sunday (October 26 and 27).

The play is called “The Mighty Vandals” and it had a successful premier run at the Peoria Performing Arts Center. 

The story takes place from 1947 to 1951, before the Supreme court banned segregation in public schools. Although Miami High School was integrated, the town’s neighborhoods, elementary schools, and other public facilities were segregated.

The 1951 Vandals team was made up of mostly Mexican and Mexican American teens from the poor side of Miami. The team was considered one of the greatest high school basketball teams in the nation. They broke nine national high school records and 18 state records on their way to a perfect season in 1951.

The performances in Miami are sponsored by the Miami Unified School District and Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold. They will start at 7:30pm on Saturday, October 26 and at 2:pm on Sunday, October 27, in the Miami High School auditorium.

Tickets are $8, $5 for students and seniors.

Fall Festival in Globe This Weekend

The annual Fall Festival will be held Friday and Saturday (October 25 and 26) at the corner of Broad and Oak in downtown Globe.

Friday’s activities from 5 to 8:pm include carnival games, food, the annual Bring Your Own Pumpkin carving contest, the Oak Street Pumpkin Roll fundraiser, live music and a Vendor’s Marketplace.

The Ghosts of Globe downtown walking tour will take place on Saturday, October 26  from 6 to 8:pm.

Renovated Bullion Plaza Gym to be Dedicated on Friday

The Phoenix Suns, APS and the Town of Miami will dedicate the newly renovated Bullion Plaza Gymnasium on Friday afternoon (October 25) from 3:30 until 4:30pm.

The MC for the event is Suns broadcaster Ann Meyers Drysdale. There will also be remarks from Miami Mayor Rosemary Castaneda and APS Relationship Manager, Richard Rosales. The event will also include an appearance from current Suns player P.J. Tucker, Suns alumnus Steven Hunter and another very special guest.

The Phoenix Suns and APS have partnered since 2006 to improve and revitalize community basketball courts across Arizona.

Globe Salvation Army Begins Taking Appointments for Family Assistance on November 4

The Globe Salvation Army will begin taking appointments for the Christmas Family Assistance Program on Monday, November 4.

You can make an appointment by calling 425-4011 between 9:am and 4:pm November 4 through November 8.

Next First Friday Program on November 1

The next First Friday program at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum is on Friday, November 1.

Museum Director Tom Foster will talk about Gila County Sheriff Glenn Reynolds. Reynolds died just over a year into his first term as Sheriff but he became a big part of Gila County history.

First Friday programs are presented by Bullion Plaza and the Gila County Historical Museum free of charge.

Light refreshments will be served following the program.

Globe Library Haunted House

The Globe Public Library’s Halloween Haunted House will be open on Saturday (October 26) from 5 to 8:pm.

There will also be game booths, face painting, scary stories and more.

Yesterday Globe Police arrested 26 year old Levi Packard for possession of marijuana.

Officers are investigating a report of theft at a business on High Street; a burglary at a residence on Vista Circle; and criminal damage at a business on Highway 60.

Globe General Plan Open House for Districts 1 & 2

A Public Open House meeting for Globe Districts 1 and 2 will be held Thurday at 6:pm at Besh Ba Gowah.

They will be discussing the City of Globe General Plan.

HDMS Parent-Teacher Conferences Thursday

High Desert Middle School is having Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday. Students will be dismissed at 2:10pm.

If your child is in 5^th grade, you need to schedule an appointment with your child’s teacher between 3:30 and 7:pm.

Parents of students in grades 6-8 may visit with teachers anytime between 3:30 and 7:pm on a first-come, first served basis 

If you cannot make these times, you can make other arrangements by calling the High Desert Middle School office.
